I laid on the couch, half awake and half asleep. I stayed over at the Curtis' last night. I really had no choice, I was a greaser in an abusive relationship with a soc. He didn't want me to tell anyone that we were together, said it would ruin his reputation. I hated being hidden but I had no other choice. Last night, he hit me a few times. Left bruises on my arms. I was so scared, I ran and ran until I reached the Curtis'. This was my safe place. Pony and Soda were always so nice. And Darry, he was the kindest man I'd ever met.
"Y/N?!" Soda ran over to me. He glanced at my arm and then back at the kitchen nervously. "Are you alright? What happened? Darry's gonna flip!" He continued to examine the bruises on my arms and neck.
"I-I'm fine Soda. Really. We just got in another fight." I whispered. I really didn't want Darry to hear us. He hated when I was all bruised and cut up. He said a real man wouldn't lay a hand on an innocent woman like myself.
"Y/N?" I heard a concerned voice say. Soda gave me a scared look and quickly walked out of the living room. Darry walked over and sat down on the chair beside me. He frowned and pushed up my sleeve to reveal darker bigger bruises. I closed my eyes, ashamed of myself for letting this happen.
"Darry." I whispered "I don't want to live like this.". He sighed and gently brushed the hair off my shoulder, revealing more bruises.
"You shouldn't have to. You should be happy with m-... someone who truly loves you." He said. I turned to him and sighed. His eyes sparkled in the morning sunlight. "I'm gonna best his ass." He continued. I gasped and touched his face, not thinking about what I was doing.
"No!" I pleaded. "It will only make things worse!" He got up and put a jacket on.
"Come on, were gonna getting out of this house for a while. Maybe we can stop by the lot." He said. I got up and winced as the soreness kicked in. Darry ran over to me and picked me up. He carried me to his car and sat me down in the passenger seat. I sat there trying not to cry. I wanted to be with a kind man, a man who could protect me. I wanted to be with Darry.
"Thanks Darry." I smiled. He smiled back and started the car.
"Y/N." He said quietly. "I want you to know that I am always here|" He stopped and glared out the window. I gasped and looked down. My boyfriend,Freddy, was sitting on the curb with another girl. A soc girl.
"What the hell?!" I started to cry. Darry jumped out of the car and walked over to him.
"What the hell are rly doing here grease?" Freddy got up. Darry towered over him, I guess it spooked him because he backed away as soon as he realized this.
"Your cheating?! First you hit her, and now this?!" Darry yelled. I've never seen Darry like this, it was scary. Freddy must have felt the same way because he turned pasty white and backed against the wall.
"Is this about Y/N? You can't really expect me to love her?!" He chuckled. Darry turned red and popped his knuckles.
"I would die to have a woman like Y/N! She's the love of my life!" He punched Freddy right in the jaw knocking him to the ground. He looked back at me and sighed. I could not believe what I had just heard. Darrel Curtis loves me.
"You can have her man! I'll leave her alone!" Freddy got up and ran off. His girlfriend right behind him.
"I" Darry started to say something, but I didn't want to talk. I ran over to him and jumped in his arms.
"I love you too." I whispered before kissing him. This kiss was softer, more gentle than the kisses I've ever had with Freddy. It was also the longest kiss I've ever had. When we both pulled back we were gasping for air. Laughing, we hugged each other until we were ready to talk.
"You wanna go back to the house? Or... idk.." he trailed off. I smiled and led him back to the car. He was about to get in the drivers seat when I stopped him.
"Passenger." I said and then jumped into the driver seat. I drove around for awhile until I pulled into an old abandoned building. It was stable, enough.
"What are we doing here?" He asked. I smirked and got out of the car.
"We're going to sit on the rooftop. We have a lot to discuss." I said in a professional tone. Darry laughed, which you didn't see that often.
"Okay then Ms." He came up behind me, hugging me from the waist. "Lead the way." I started climbing a tree that had a branch hanging over the rooftop. Darry followed me, climbing with much more ease. He was taller and stronger, but I still wanted to beat him to the top. I was almost there when I saw Darry throw himself off the tree and roll gracefully on the roof. I sighed and climbed onto the rooftop.
"Now, where do we start." I said trying to catch my breath. Darry sighed and lit a weed.
"How about when we first realized we liked each other." He suggested. I nodded and began to think back.
"We were at the drive in, Soda, Pony, and you and I. Pony made a comment about how we would be perfect for each other." I stopped and looked at him. He was smiling from ear to ear. "I started wanting to be around you more and more. You would always be on my mind. No matter what I was doing." I continued. "And then I met Freddy. I thought that I could fall in love with him and forget about the way you made me feel. Because... I thought you saw me as nothing more than another greaser girl." I stared at the clouds. Trying not to make eye contact with Darry. He wasn't making it easy.
"Oh Y/N, you've never been just a greaser." He put his hand on my thigh and sighed. "You've always been the girl to give me butterflies. Or keep me up at night. And knowing that that tool, Freddy, was hurting you.... I couldn't take it." He continued. I looked at his sparkling eyes and smiled.
"Darry, I want to be with you." I said. He smiled back and then kissed me. We laid on the roof until the sun started to go down.
"Pony and Soda are probably worried bout us." Darry got up and stretched. I slowly got up, to tired to think clearly. We made our way down to the car.
"You want to stay at my house tonight?" He asked as he started the car. I looked out the window, wishing it could be our house instead. I dreamed of living with Darry and the boys.
"Of course, your house is way cozier than any house I've ever stayed in." I smirked, trying to sound cool with "his" house. I've never had a home before, Freddy never let me stay over and all of my friends only allowed me to stay a week or so.
"Y/N?" He asked, I forced myself to look at him. He sighed and closed his eyes. "I want you to stay for as long as you'd like. You can stay in my room from now on too." He said. I smiled and kissed his cheek.
"Thanks Dar." I said, he started driving. I couldn't help but stare at his perfectly structured face. He noticed I was staring and smirked.
"Do I have something on my face?" He chuckled. I blushed and playfully punched his arm.
"Yeah.. perfection." I laughed. He smiled and grabbed my hand.
"Baby, if I'm perfect then you must be a goddess." He gently kissed my hand and pulled into the driveway. "We're home." He gazed at me with happiness in his eyes.
"Were home." I repeated confidently. He smiled and got out of the car, I followed.
When we walked into the house the whole gang was sitting in the living room.
"Hey guys! I have something to tell y'all." Darry grinned. The gang turned their attention to us. Darry was about to say something but I was tired of talking. So I kissed him, after a few seconds the gang started smiling and laughing.
"I knew it!" Two-bit exclaimed. "Hey Steve you owe me $5!" Steve rolled his eyes and pulled a $5 bill out of his pocket.
"You guys were betting on us?!" Darry rolled his eyes. I sighed but chuckled quietly. Gosh I love this gang😂😂.
