Chapter 33

Niall...

All my feelings hit like a ton of bricks. For someone as broken as she was, she was so beautiful and light. She radiated with it. The smile on her face, the glow in her eyes, she couldn't be beat by even the most gorgeous of models. Before I could connect my brain and my mouth, my words stuttered out in a jumbled mess. It was the perfect setting for a date.

I just couldn't stop myself as the words kept vomiting from my mouth.

Fuck, Niall, what did you do?! You just not so subtly asked your best friend out on a date!

I was pretty sure the burning in my cheeks were resembling a nice lobster color. She was gonna be weirded out. This was a terrible idea.

When she mentioned she would love for it to be a date. I couldn't have been more over the moon. But of course she didn't mean it like that. The balloons in my chest that I call lungs deflated.

Right. Best friends, I should've known. I was stupid to believe she meant otherwise.

My smile faltered for a little bit before I quickly slipped it back on. I needed to save myself before I looked downright stupid. I just got friend zoned for goodness sake's. I felt a deep well of disappointment start to weigh in my heart.

I shouldn't be that disappointed though. I mean, why would she want to be with me after I abandoned her for five years and then stabbed her in the back?

I'll answer that, she wouldn't.

I followed her with my eyes as she made her way over to the blanket. She sat down and leaned against one of the pillows as she picked up a sunflower. Next to roses, they were her favorite. She said they reminded her of sunshine and happy things, and she ate sunflower seeds like no tomorrow when she was a kid. I always told her she'd turn into a sunflower if she continued to eat so many seeds, and she said she would be more than happy.

I watched as she twirled the flower in her hands and glanced around the light covered beach. "This really is so thoughtful, Niall. You've really outdone yourself today." She smiled as her eyes finally maneuvered over to mine.

I returned the smile and went over to sit next to her. "Only the best for my Annabelle."

I wish you really were my Annabelle.

"So what's for dinner then, Chef Horan?" She said with a playful nudge to my shoulder. I got on my knees and crawled over to the basket on the corner of the blanket. I pulled out the big container that had my famous Parmesan chicken in it, as well as a box of pizza.

"Pizza and chicken. Your two favorites."

Her eyes twinkled and I gave her a plate full of food before the twinkle could disappear. I wanted to see it as long as I could.

We put in some movies while we ate our food, and I lost track of every movie we watched. It was much more entertaining watching her.

We both downed two large servings, and made our moves to the candy and chocolate I had scattered around. She ate so much chocolate so fast, that it was almost as if she hadn't eaten it since I had left.

"Ooh! Let's play this one!" She exclaimed as she tossed her candy wrapper away.

We were deciding which board game we wanted to play. Or she was. I wanted it to be what she wanted so I kept my input to myself. I was happy when she was happy so I'd play whatever she wanted.
