The Right Thing

Mak's pov:
The sound of the gunship flying through the atmosphere surrounded us as Master Plo gave out orders right before the attack. "Commander Tano's unit will land on the western side of the base whilst Captain Mak will land on the northern side where the hangar is located, upon landing you will be met with a high amount of fire, but we cannot let that stop us we must push!" The General said through the holocron that lit up in front of me and my men.

The gunship began shaking more and more as the explosions and blaster fire became louder and started getting closer. "What are these explosions? I thought we took out the cannons!" Dupo questioned beside me holding onto the handle above him.

"Must be some tanks or spider droids." I say occasionally looking up at him.

Suddenly the gunship came to a stop and the red light turned to green. "Go, go go!" I yelled as the door slid open.

We rushed out to be met by a large amount of blaster fire from all around us. Suddenly a clone beside me got blasted with his helmet flying off. I didnt dare to look back at him, it was a perfect shot to the head.

I started to panic whilst taking down any droid i could see through the blaster fire as i could not see a good place to position my unit in. "Rush their defenses! Go! As fast as you can!" I yelled out the simple order as i began running towards the nearest defensive position that happened to be defended by a spider droid.

I started firing my twin mandalorian blaster pistols at it to hopefully do some damage.

The faint screams of the clones around me crumbled me up, but also gave me strengh, we cant let their sacrifices go to waist.

"Fire on that spider droid!" I yelled as a clone with a rocket launcher ran up beside me taking aim on the spider droid. Suddenly he fired blasting the droid into scrap.

"Nice work! Now keep moving!" I yelled right after praising the solidier.

Me and a few other clones reached the defensive position clearing it out with ease before moving in to outflank the other defensive positions.

After a while of fighting our landing area was clear.

"Commander Tano come in. We have cleared the hangar. Do you need any support?" I asked activating my comlink.

"I'd appreciate it." She says gasping and taking quick breathes as the sound of blaster fire surrounds her. "Be quick!" She adds.

"Commander Tano needs our help lets show these clankers what we've got for em!" I say through my comlink addressing my unit.

"Of course she does." I hear Del mumble beside me.

"What was that?" I say turning to Del as he brushes it off "what was what?"

I shake my head before ordering him "Just get on with the mission Del."

He nods as he runs past me nudging me with his shoulder.

We reached the western side of the base to find Ashoka's unit suppressed by the clankers.

"Get up behind em!" I shout as my unit begins moving closer to the clankers without them even knowing. "Fire!" I yell as the droids in front of us begin to fall and Ashoka's unit begins pushing towards us.

I see the last clanker being blasted as a clone executes it as it lays inert on the floor.

"Good job captain. Thinking on your feet. Reminds me of Rex and Anakin."
She says coming towards me.

"Thats quite a compliment commander." I say as my cheeks start blushing.

"We've got to help Master Plo. He's moving in to capture this base's commander." She says as she begins walking slowly, i follow ordering my unit to do the same.

Ashoka walks off and begins talking to her second in command as Dupo comes beside me "We've done a good job here-" I muted out the rest as I saw Del pull out his blaster and aim it at Commander Tano.

I lunged at him pushing his blaster as he shot. He fell to the floor with me landing on top of him. "Get off! Im only doing whats right!" He starts shouting like a madman.

"Killing your commander is not the right thing Del!" I shout as everyone around us looks down at us.

I see Ashoka walking over to us as we wrestle on the floor. "Mak! Del! Get up what are you doing?" Ashoka shouts as I get up off of Del.

"He tried to shoot you!" I shout as Del gets up.

"What? Is that true Del?" She asks as he locks his eyes onto a blaster that a clone beside him is holding in his hands.

I lower my hand as it hovers over my holster. He quickly snatches the blaster off the clone and turns to Ashoka as i pull out my blaster pistol shooting him in the chest. "Sorry, Del."

He begins to cough heavily as he falls to the floor with all his life fading away. "Cah- cant you see? The jedi... they're using us. Like animals. We we are nothing to them...." he says as his last words come out quiet as ever.

"He chose his path. Now lets keep going. The other unit needs help."
I say as the others begin walking once more.

"Thanks Mak" Ashoka says as she begins walking beside me.

"Its my duty." I say with a neutral tone.

The clones that did hear what he said clearly did not believe in his mad talk. And neither did I. It feels wrong leaving his lifeless body behind, i dont know why. He wasnt even a friend. Perhaps because every trooper at my side is like a brother to me.
