I awoke to the sound of one of favorite songs.

You’re the snake hidden in my daffodils when I’m picking flowers,” a deep voice sang softly. It was a nice voice, delicate, but sensual.

That’s just my luck these days,” I sang back rolling over and sitting up. I screamed at the sight of a lanky, blond haired boy sitting with his legs crossed in my bean bag chair sifting through my CD collection.

“Shit, Luke! You almost made me crap my pants,” I yelled at him. Luke was one of Ashton’s friends. I had the biggest crush on him when I was like 11. He was gorgeous, blond hair, blue eyes, lip ring that made him look even hotter.

He stood up and hit pause on the CD a smirk playing on his lips. “You’re not wearing pants.”

I looked down at my body clad in just my Blink t-shirt. I quickly grabbed my comforter and covered my legs.

“What are you doing in here?”

“Checking out your music; your taste is impressive.”

“Where’s Dung and Ansel?” I asked him.

“Downstairs, eating; is that Ansel guy your boyfriend?”

Was he? I guess not. I liked him, a lot, like more than anyone ever, but I didn’t even know if he wanted to be my boyfriend.

“Uh- no, I guess not.”

“You guess not?”

“Get out so I can put some clothes on!” I shouted throwing a pillow at him.

“Okay, okay, I’m going!”

When he left I changed into clean underwear, a white tank top, cardigan, and jean shorts. My hair was a complete disaster. I’d showered yesterday before dinner and just blow dried it and left it natural. That wasn’t a good idea. It was now sticking up everywhere, curly in some places, straight in others. I brushed it out and threw it up into a ponytail. When I got downstairs Dung was sitting on the counter eating an apple and blatantly checking Luke out as he poured himself some orange juice. Ansel was talking to Ashton about some video game while they ate cereal. When I walked in Ansel halted the conversation and came up to me.

“Hey,” he said with a giant smile.

I smiled back. “Hey.”

“Your mom left for work.”

I nodded.

“How are you feeling?”

“I don’t know yet. I’m angry, but I probably always will be.”

He nodded. “I made you some bacon; Ashton told me it’s your favorite.”

I smiled. “Thanks but I need don’t need you to take care of me, I’m fine.”

“I want to,” he replied.

Luke cleared his throat. “I’ll eat it if you don’t.”

“Don’t you dare,” I said and grabbed a few pieces for myself. “Mine,” I mumbled to him as I chewed.

Luke laughed and I sat down on the couch and checked Instagram and Tumblr on my phone. Ansel sat down next to me, but not as close as I wanted him to. Deep down inside I wanted him to comfort me, like he did last night, but I didn’t want him to think I needed him. We were young and eventually life was going to get in the way of our- whatever this was. I didn’t want to get too attached, though I knew I already was.
