✡️Joslynn's POV✡️

I got up early the next morning. I tiptoed down the stairs and out of the house, I didn't tell Alisa. Knowing Joe, he'd be up already waiting for his breakfast or either drunk on the couch. He couldn't be home, it was a crime scene, they'd never let him in. My heart was jumpy, it felt as if it stopped every two minutes, I felt as if I was being watched, everything has changed since yesterday; I talked for the first time in seven years, I had a new best friend, my mother died and I now have a room in one of the town's biggest houses. I felt somewhat special, and like trash. I walked to my house, the door was wide open and a car was in the driveway. I recognized it as Joe's, he had a small, old, broken down silver car, I've never been in it and thank god for that. I walked slowly towards the door, I feared that Joe was gonna jump out of nowhere and kill me.

I looked inside the house, there was a huge bloodstain on the carpet, and as I turned my head, Joe was on the couch, drunk. I walked in. Only a crazy man like Joe can sleep in a crime scene. I'm sure Joe killed my mother, there was no doubt in my mind. I tiptoed quietly into the kitchen and then down into the basement. I gathered most of my things and packed them into a bag. I threw the bag on the bed and went inside my bathroom, I took the pills which Dr. Reynold gave me and went back inside my room and placed them into the bag. I felt someone breathing on my neck, my body stiffened, and I forced myself to turn around.

As I turned, I came face to face with Joe. His eyes were darkened in anger, before I could react he grabbed onto my neck, squeezing the air out of me. Tears flowed from my eyes and I whimpered in pain. He grinned at my pain. He lifted me off my feet and into the air, I held onto his hands, trying to pull away them, I felt my head getting lighter as I was running out of air.

"P-Plea-Please!" I wheezed out, more tears fell and I wanted to scream.

"So the b*tch can finally talk." He smiled evilly. "You should've stayed away, you and your sl*t of a mother!" He threw me against the wall. I hit my back against the wall and slid to the floor in agony. His figure towered over me, I closed my eyes and expected the worse.

"You motherf*cker!" I heard someone yell. My eyes burst open in surprise as I saw Ace, he held Joe's collar and continuously punched his face. Joe's nose starting bleeding and his eyes were swollen, he seemed to be unconscious but that didn't stop Ace. Bruises were formed, but yet still Ace didn't stop.

"S-Stop!" I cried out in pain. My head spun, my eyes blurred. Ace stopped punching Joe and approached me in worry.

"Joslynn!" His voice echoed as my eyes closed and everything went black.

My mind was on, but my body refused to move. I felt a comfortable surface beneath my body and in a strange way, I felt safe. I wanted to open my eyes, but I was just too tired, I was too weak. Besides, I didn't feel the need to move, I was alright.

"Jossy..." A voice wept, I recognized the voice as Alisa's. I needed to let her know I was okay. I had to move, or open my eyes. Bright light made contact with my eyes as I opened them. I was no longer in the basement, but in Alisa's house in my reserved room. I was on the comfy bed, my body covered in warmth.

"Jossy!" She exclaimed in delight as she saw me open my eyes. She reacted quickly and hugged me, I could sense her worries disappear as she held me. "You almost gave me a heart attack."

"I'm sorry," I told her, my eyes were half opened. I was really tired. "at least I'm not dead."

"You would have been if I wasn't there." Ace's voice was full of hatred and anger. He folded his arms across his chest and leaned against the doorway.

"Thanks for your help, you-"

"Yeah," He cut me off harshly. "next time you think of being a fool, give someone a heads up."

"ACE!" Alisa shouted in anger. "Say one more word against her and I'll break your neck!"

"Sorry for being the sane one here." He stood straight and turned his back to exit. He halted and turned his head, I didn't see his expression but after he stormed away angrily. Alisa took a breath, calming herself down. She then held my hand.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She asked quietly. "Was I not trustworthy?"

"Alisa..." I held onto her hand tightly. "that's not it. I lived a hard life, I didn't want to be a burden. I know that I'm unwanted, but I didn't want to be a charity case."

"Jossy, I would've helped you. I would've never considered you as a charity case, you're my friend." She sniffled. "I just wish you would have told me before things got out of hand."

"I'm sorry, I guess I had the wrong idea." I looked at the wall. "I was stupid."

"Yes you were." I looked at her, in a disappointed way. But when I saw her laughing face, I hit her playfully. "Aren't you suppose to be injured, stop hitting me!" She laughed.
