✡️Joslynn's POV✡️
I finally mustered up the courage to talk to dad about Sophie. I was standing in front of the door to the kitchen, debating how I should approach dad about the topic. I stood outside the kitchen for a few minutes before a heard a frustrated yell coming from the kitchen, the yell was followed by my dad's voice.
"Sophie, can't you accept the twins and Joslynn for me?" Dad asked. I placed my ear to the door and listened closely.
"Listen Johnathon, I wanted Mason to be the only child in this house! Now he's crowded by these kids of yours! I swear if you bring in another child, I'll leave this house!" She threatened.
"Sophie you're blowing this way out of proportion!" My dad argued. "Why can't you love my kids?! They're a part of me, and if you love me then you can love them!"
"How can I when they're the children of that woman! Oh God that Mary drives me crazy!" She yelled loudly, and I heard some pots fall to the floor making a loud clang.
"Mary is gone now! Can't you be nice?! Joslynn was so excited to meet you and get to know you, but you're acting like a witch!" He burst out. "I'm beginning to see the similarities of you and Mary."
"DON'T YOU DARE COMPARE ME TO THAT TRASH!" She roared and a crash was heard.
"FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! SOPHIE SHUT THE F*CK UP!!!" Dad yelled as he slammed his fist into a wall. "They're good kids and I love all my kids, including Mason."
"What about his inheritance?" She asked.
IS SHE FOR REAL?!
"His inheritance?!" Dad questioned her, his voice was rising. "You're worried for his inheritance?! THE BOY IS ONLY FOUR!"
"I want to make sure that his future is secured." She told him.
"I secured all of my children's futures, including Mason. I gave you as well as Mason a share of my money and property." He told her. "You should be glad that you're in my will, now I'm debating whether or not you should be in my will. After your little outburst today, questioning my kids, maybe I should reconsider."
"Johnathon!" Sophie gasped. "I didn't mean to insult. I'm just a worried mother, I've seen my own parents' marriage fall apart when my dad brought his children to live with us."
"Sophie," His voice was quiet. "I'm sorry about what happened to your parents, but you can't assume the worse in everything. Joslynn, James, Janice and Josh need a mother. They need you."
Who's Josh?
"I don't think that'll happen. After what I've done to them, my attitude towards them, they hate me." She sounded genuinely sorry. "I can't believe I doubted you, Johnathon. You are a great father, and a great husband."
I assumed they kissed when I heard a weird sound.
I smiled at their reconciliation and wiped a lone tear that happened to run down my cheek.
"I know I am." Dad said smugly. I heard Sophie chuckle. "But you're wrong, the kids are still waiting for a touch of motherly love from you, and I think Mason also deserves some."
"Thanks honey."
After that, their conversation ended. I guess I don't need to talk to dad.
"Why are you eavesdropping?" A voice asked from behind me. I jumped in surprised and turned to an unfamiliar face.
"Who are you?" I asked with a confused expression.
"I'm Josh, and you must be Joslynn." He introduced himself.
Josh? The same Josh dad was talking about?
"I'm sorry, but who exactly are you?" I asked. He frowned a bit.
"I'm guessing dad hasn't told you yet." He said as he shook his head.
"Told me what?" I questioned, he entered the kitchen and I followed after him. In the kitchen was dad and Sophie hugging.
"Dad." Josh called. That caught the attention of dad and Sophie and they stopped hugging and released each other.
Wait! Did he call dad 'dad'?
"You haven't told her yet?" He asked him with a disappointed look. Dad looked a little embarrassed.
"I'll give you guys some privacy." Sophie said and squeezed pass me and Josh. She turned to me before she left. "You and me have some girl time to catch up on."
She smiled and left the room.
WOW! Okay, she changed her really quick. I guess some reassurance is what she really needed.
"Dad, you didn't tell her yet?" Josh asked, hurt was present in his voice.
"Josh, I didn't tell her because she was in the hospital. She was just discharged today, and the doctor made it very clear that she mustn't exert herself physically or be stressed." He explained to the boy.
"Can anyone tell me what's going on?" I asked, very confused about the entire situation.
"Joslynn, you need to sit down for this." Dad told me with a nervous smile. So they led me to the living room and I was seated.
"Okay, I'm sitting. What do you need to tell me?" I asked, eagerly.
"Well...you are aware of the lies your mother has kept from all of us," I nodded and he continued on. "apparently, she also lied about having another child."
"What?" I asked in a shocked state.
"Your mother and I were high school sweethearts, we were together three years before she married Joe. When she got engaged to Joe, I was shocked. She didn't mention anything about Joe, nor did she say anything about marriage. All I know was one day we were together, the next day we weren't." He took a breath. "When she told me about the engagement, the next day she went missing. She was missing for eleven months, her family nor Joe knew of her whereabouts. When she finally appeared from wherever she was, she immediately got married to Joe."
"How could she be cruel and play with someone's emotions like that?" I asked out loud. My mother is truly a witch.
"I don't know, but I am to be blamed too. Even though she broke my heart I still went back to her. That's when you came around." He told me, hurt was evident in his eyes.
"Dad, I don't blame you." I told him in a sympathetic tone.
"Thank you." He smiled and cleared his throat ready to continue. "Anyway, a few months ago, I went to a doctor to collect some test results I had done. When I received my results, I thought something was wrong with them, so I inquired. Later on, I found out it was Josh's. When I asked how they could've make a stupid mistake like that, they explained that our DNA were similar. They did a test, and I found out that Josh is-"
"Your son." I concluded. He nodded in agreement. "So, mom was pregnant with your child, but was too ignorant to accept that. So she ran away for a few months, gave birth to the baby and abandoned it?"
"It seems so. I spoke to the hospital when Josh said he was born. They said that night when the woman gave birth, they left the room to clean up the baby, and when they returned, she was missing."
"So that means that...Josh is my brother." I said looking at him.
"Yep, I'm your older brother." He chuckled.
