✡️Joslynn's POV✡️
My body tensed as I felt droplets fall on my hand. I slightly opened my eyes and was blinded by a bright light. The pain from my waist was gone and my head felt at ease. My eyes quickly adjusted to the brightness of the room and I looked around. I was in a hospital, lying stiffly on the bed. I looked to my side, Alisa sat and rested her head on my hand, she looked like she was sleeping but then she sniffled and I then realized that she was crying. I wanted to speak, but my throat was dry, so I wiggled my fingers to try to catch her attention. Her head snapped towards my direction, my heart broke as I saw her red, watery eyes. She broke into a smile and held my hand tightly.
"Jossy!" She exclaimed in relief and hugged me gently. "You're awake, I was so worried!"
I laughed softly.
"Pops was so worried, he almost strangled a doctor for you." I gaped in horror. "But don't worry, Ace called Dr. Reynolds, so he treated you!"
I was so relieved Dr. Reynolds took care of me, I felt really safe with him. He just has that effect on people. Alisa went on about how much she missed me and how she cried and cried by my bed. I can't believe she missed me after a couple of hours. But, what happened to me? The last thing I remember was being with Alisa at the police station, we were waiting for the guys to bail out Ace.
"Oh gosh! I should call the doctors and pops!" She tapped her head as she remembered. She ran out of the room and it took a few seconds for Dr. Reynolds and my dad to rush in. Alisa was behind them, and so was Ace.
"Sweetheart!" My dad exclaimed in happiness. "I'm so relieved you're awake!" He placed a kiss on my head.
"D-dad." I managed to spit out. "I'm fine."
"You're fine now!" Alisa said, a bit angrily.
"What's wrong?" I asked them with a confused face. Their expressions made me worried; the way they looked at me, and the way Alisa spoke.
Something was wrong.
"Um...well-"
"Joslynn." Ace addressed me, his voice filled with concern. I turned my head to him, fear building up inside me.
"What?!" I asked, the curiosity killing me from inside and out.
"Joe was the cause of all this, when he stabbed you in your waist, apparently whatever it was, was infected with a dangerous bacteria." He told me, I sensed pain in his voice, but it also sounded like tiredness.
"I kinda guessed that, I'm not surprised." I told him, lowering my head.
"What a crappy way to celebrate your birthday, huh?" Alisa nudged my shoulder gently.
"My birthday?" I questioned with an arched eyebrow. "It isn't until Friday."
"Jossy," Alisa paused. "today is Friday. You were unconscious for four days. I'm sorry."
She was truly sad for me. I didn't want anyone to feel my pain, it was too much for any one person to handle. I, myself, didn't know how I managed to hide everything that ever happened to me, but now I'm thankful that I have people who support and comfort me.
"Well, then." I said, forcing a smile. "Happy birthday to me!"
Alisa and my dad put on a smile to encourage me, Ace, on the other hand, was a bit angry and annoyed. I didn't bother to act offended or even sad, I'm gonna enjoy my life to the fullest. I'm not gonna let Joe or anyone else ruin my life, I'm finally free and I'm not gonna be caged ever again.
"Great to know that you're so optimistic!" Alisa said, her tone finally sounded happy.
That made me happy.
"The doctor said you could be discharged today." My dad informed me, trying to be the carrier of good news. I smiled to the news and he smiled knowing that he completed his mission of making me smile.
"But as soon as you're discharged, you're staying with me. Dr. Reynolds gave very specific instructions so that you'll recover quickly." Dad said with a stern and warning tone.
"Dad, do I have to?!" I whined, but my voice was too soft so it sounded like a mouse squeaking.
"Joslynn, no complaints. I'm very serious, I want you to be in excellent condition. After you recover, you can go back by Alisa's."
"And my parents said you can come over anytime!" Alisa chipped in.
"Your parents? They're here already?" I asked.
"Yep." She said with a nod. "In fact they were visited you over the last few days, they just stepped out to get food. They'll be back in a few minutes."
"I wanna stay with Alisa." I pouted, but Alisa agreed with dad. She placed her hands on her hips and made the face your mom would make when she's about to lecture you.
"Joslynn Couture." She called to attention. "Your father is very worried about you and it's his right to take care of you, I swear if you don't obey him, I'm gonna lock you in a room and handcuff you to make sure you don't escape. Trust me, this is the kindest punishment you can get from me."
I coward back a little and nodded. "Okay."
"Okay, that's enough Alisa." Dad said patting her back.
"We're back!" A voice announced. A couple entered the room, and judging by their appearances and familiar faces, I assumed they were Alisa and Ace's parents.
"She's awake!" Alisa informed with a cheery tone.
"Great." Her mother approached me, her face with a relieved smile. She seemed very pleasant and she was dressed very well.
"Hi, I'm Joslynn." I greeted her with a friendly smile. She let out a happy laugh.
"I know, Alisa filled us in on all the details. I now know a lot about you." She informed me, shaking her head in Alisa's direction.
"Good news!" Dr. Reynolds exclaimed as he gave my dad a clipboard. "The discharge papers are done, so Joslynn is free to leave."
"That's great!" Alisa cheered.
"But," Dr. Reynolds continued with a hesitant tone. "Joslynn mustn't exert herself to any physical stress. Her injuries are still in the process of healing."
"Don't worry Doctor, I'll take good care of her." Dad told him with an assuring smile.
"I'm sure you will." He smiled back. "I'll send in a wheelchair to carry Joslynn out." He then left the room.
I was so happy to be out of the hospital!
