Chapter 17 Life's Twists and Turns (Part I)

_______________

As I sauntered back through James' front door, I didn't sense any steps behind myself. Sean must've remained exactly where he was, going over all the words that had been spoken. I could feel my head throbbing... There were so many little things that I kept in the back of mind, as an anxiety store: The place where all the little things are that could blow up into big things and cause some intense anxiety.

When I entered, warm air enveloped my body, feeling more like a wave of dizziness rather than warmth hitting me. James stood in front of his couch, stroking his chin with two fingers.

"I saw that Katy. That wasn't some protective talk, that was some really overprotective, aggressive type of shit, you must've scared him away. Boo you." I had to laugh at James' words. At least he didn't appear suspicious. "What the hell did you tell 'em?" James questioned in utter confusion.

"I don't know. Gave him some wise words. Maybe some threats... Just to be sure, you know." I gigged, trying to ease the tension inside of me.

"No. But what? What exactly? Why isn't he coming back here, we were all supposed to have hippie-dippie fun time drinking tea."

"Oh, he... He said he would hit you up later, his phone rang, he probably has to be somewhere important."

James shot me an unconvincing glare, a knit forming in his brows.

"Katy, you were really yelling out there, were those death threats? I couldn't hear it through my thick walls, but I could certainly see them veins on your neck."

"You're my bestfriend, James, I don't want you to get hurt. Simple as that."

James' eyes travelled to the ground, a content expression laying on his face. He smiled.

The entire evening was spent watching exciting series and movies. James and I had simultaneously fallen asleep, at around 04:00AM.

The following morning, my phone buzzed. It buzzed in my ear, awaking all my senses, and tearing me away from the peaceful sleeping state I was in. Unfortunately the day had started. And unfortunately I had to get up. That meant I had to face the problems, like you have to face your enemy on a battlefield.

I tore my pillow from under me, reading the bright screen of my phone. It was 02:00PM and Alessia was calling me. Alessia? It was indeed Alessia.

The speed of my pulse picked up. I rejected her call and sent her a message:

Meet me at the park a few blocks away from my house. U know where James lives?

In front of James' house. We need to talk.

I considered adding an "XO", but I knew better. Alessia instantly responded with a "K." I peered around myself, and noticed James sprawled across his bed, still sleeping peacefully. I would let him sleep, and when I would return I could wake him up.

Alessia's hair glistened in the sunlight, as I saw her move closer towards the park. When she reached me, we exchanged looks, but neither wanted to make an intimate move and hug the other.

"Hi," I said.

"Hi," she echoed.

With a flat palm I pointed at the bench next to us. We both sat down. That was the first time I could've said that the atmosphere between us was extremely awkward. It had never been that way before, so everything seemed unsual and slightly annoying.
