On the run.

Moving the clan was always a mission; the best flyboy had to fly the Clan administration building in front. This year the assigned flyboy was a girl by name Macy.

The clan headquarters was 2 miles long, 1 mile wide and 14 stories high. It wasn't the largest building by far; Macy lifted the clan building 1 mile into the air and flew to the furthest point of the clan on the side away from the Abyss. From there Macy would fly towards the Abyss and all buildings would rise up and follow, much akin to peeling off a sticker from a mirror.

The buildings would rise and follow Macy. Minimum speed for a building was set at 100 miles per hour, clan law for millennia already. Macy just moved at 20 miles per hour to make sure the other flyboys could get up and fit in with all the other buildings doing the same. There were over 20 000 buildings in the clan and a population just under 800 000 people. As soon as the clan reached a population of 1 million people the clan had to divide according to clan law and form two new clans and move their separate ways. The splitting of the clan was known as 'The Parting'.

As soon as Macy hit the edge of the Abyss in the clan headquarters she started the downward trajectory to the next clan home. The other ships mostly used the casino as a beacon; the casino was a pyramid, 3 miles by 3 miles with 27 levels all plated in the most expensive material of all time, copper.

Vivian's ship construction building would take off last; his building was five miles long and 1 mile wide with 9 levels. Vivian's ship was big enough to rescue any other ships that ran into problems and would use his massive construction ships to hold a cripple building and land them on the roof of his building. Most clan moves went smoothly and according to plan.

After an hour all the ships were in the Abyss, the 20 000 buildings forming the 'Caravan of freedom' on the run from Hegemon. The first clan to fly and run were called Gypsies by Hegemon. Gypsies moved their homes as they moved around in the kingdom under Hegemon's control. The gypsies were the dirt under Hegemon's fingernails; a regular cleanup had to be performed so with the first rebellion the gypsies formed the backbone of the rebellion.

With millennia the Gypsies ran further and further down the Abyss forming a new culture led by 1. 1 was the unofficial king of the gypsies and became the clan father.

The buildings the rebels moved in became bigger every year, after millennia the buildings tended could get huge and the families inside them just as big. 1 still lived in his small home, a two level 100 by 100 yard home. Humility was 1's greatest quality.

May had hired flyboys to fly Silkwood to the next clan site. After tons of interviews 10 pilots for the speedsters had been found and the clan move was their first tryout in the Abyss. Ruby and May sat in the Mayflower hovering up and over the flying buildings. The speedsters were all patrolling around all the buildings in the caravan.

It wasn't exciting at all, just the yearly flight for the clan; it was part of the gypsy life. Ruby was itching to put the Mayflower to the test; Grandma Grey was hovering next to the Mayflower in the B&B. After both ships had their domes over Grandma mouthed the words "Eat my dirt" and shot off. Ruby shot off behind Grandma Grey and tried to keep up for the rest of the journey. Ruby backed off about an hour after their patrol race around the caravan because May had emptied her stomach contents into the air sickness bag.

After Ruby dropped off May on top of Silkwood she went after Grandma Grey again. The best way to get used to a ship was to race with her, and Grandma Grey was the person to race against. Grandma Grey had the fastest reactions of anyone in the clan and May had often speculated Grandma had her nervous system enhanced by rare crystals. This however could not be proved but then again the old body Grandma inhabited had be enhanced medically to overcome the infirmities of age.

Ruby overtook Grandma Grey a few times but Grandma outraced her before the clan landed. Grandma had been racing for Millennia. 1 had a saying Ruby enjoyed so much, 1 would say "The only way to learn to fly better is to fly against better opponents".
