I was asleep in my room, tucked away in my blankets like every night. Each night Daddy would tuck me into bed and mummy would read me a story, each night a different story. Tonight she read a chapter of Winnie the Pooh, I loved that book, I liked imagining that I was there with everyone; Tigger, Pooh, Piglet and everyone else. Mommy read the story and daddy would act out the voices in his silly voice of his. He was very good as pretending to be Pooh bear.
When that chapter was done, I begged and begged for them to stay in my room a little longer, I didn't want them to leave just yet, I wanted them to stay with me, hug me and cuddle me until I went to sleep. My pleading must have helped because they stayed until I feel sleep.
Asleep, in my own world. At peace. What does a five year old girl dream about? I dreamt about going on an adventure with Pooh and my parents, we were in the woods, rescuing all our friends from danger. We had successfully rescued them and were having a party at outside Rabbits house, we had balloons and honey lots of if it. Just when we were about to cut the celebration cake everything went dark. The sun was gone, the cake and the decorations were gone. My friends had vanished. My parents who were sat next to me were gone. The ground began to rumble making me lose my balance and fall onto my bum. There were loud banging noises everywhere. So loud they were hurting my ears. The only sound I could hear was my name being called out.
"Julia...Julia...Julianna...Julianna!" It got louder and louder, my eyes shot open to find my daddy waking me up, his face plastered with fear. "Julianna you have to get up honey. Come on" He said frantically carrying me in his arms. Everything was happening so quickly. The noises I heard in my head had followed me to real life, there were bangs everywhere.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and held on tight. He carried me with one hand while the other held his gun. I had seen my parents guns before. They were locked away in a high security safe in the basement but they never used them, especially when I was around. Mommy was waiting at the door point her gun at something while daddy got me.
"We have to get her out of here." She screamed, just has someone shot at us. Daddy instantly ducked covering my head with his other arm while mommy shot back. It was now that I realised I was hearing gun shots earlier, this was what ruined my dream. I was scared, I was on the verge of crying. I held onto my father with all my might as he tried to shield me. "James let's go!" Mommy shouted the gun shots had stopped for a bit giving us the chance to move around the corridors. We ran down the stairs faster than ever! The front door would have been the obvious option but they thought against it.
"The car, well take the car!" Daddy shouted leading us to the garage. There was movement behind us, the sound of heavy footwear and clicking too. We got to the garage and daddy quickly put me in the car seat behind, they quickly jumped into the front locking all the doors.
"Mommy what's going on?" I asked from the backseat. I hadn't realised I was crying until I felt her reach over and stroke my cheek. I was a five year old girl in her little yellow paw print pyjamas scared for her life. Just hours ago we were having a good time.
"Nothing sweetie, don't be scared okay? We have you." She said in the uttermost comforting voice, she stroked my cheek giving me a sweet smile. I tried to smile back but I couldn't.
Seconds later there was more gun shot being fired at the car. The made my mother remove her hand from my cheek and pull out the gun from the glove compartment. "Don't worry honey." She indirected to me. Daddy began reversing out the garage door, when two men began shooting at us from behind.
"Look at me sweetheart." He said as he pressed his foot on the gas. We hit a slight bump at first then the gun shots stopped, then we were off."
