The drive up to Regan Street was longer than I had anticipated, after enduring an hour and a half of driving in the highway we drive up to a quiet town. Lexington was like a different world I had never experienced before. We drove through the town which consisted of a few clothes shops, some cafés, electrical stores and a grocery stores. The town itself was nearly empty, which could have been down to the fact that it was early in the morning but it was different to what I was used to. Back in Penny, no matter what time it was the town always looked lively.
Passing through the town we drove down a couple neighbourhoods in Lexington, all the houses were big and detached with white picket fences and green lawns in the front yard. There were people walking their dogs, a couple of runners running through the park and cars pulling out of their driveways as people made their way to work. Welcome to the other half Julia. I said to myself as I watched the neighbours greet each other.
Regan Street was not majorly different to the streets we had previously drove through; the only differences were that the houses were larger and had larger front yards. Each house was different from the other in terms of structure and exterior design, while one house would consist of stones or brick walls, another would be made of siding. We were not shown pictures of the house we were staying, but were only told the number. 10 Regan Street. Alex's car was in front of mine so he was the first to pull up to a large White House.
The house was the same size as the others on the street except the exterior was different. This house had light tan exterior painted bricks. There were black shutters on the outside windows with a black front door. There was a large front yard, with freshly cut short green hedges cut to perfection bordering a bluestone pathway that lead to the front door. To the left of the house was the garage and the driveway.
We both climbed out the cars and stood in awe, this place made my place back in Penny look like a shed. And if the exterior was making me feel like this, how was I going to feel when we enter the house. "This is ours?" Alex asked dazed by the house. I didn't respond to his question; I was too busy taking in all the green around the house. So much green, trees, bushes, and the grass.
"Welcome Neighbours!" A high-pitched voice squealed behind us.
Despite being trained to not be fazed when being surprised, it didn't stop me from jumping back a little and quickly turning around to be faced by a petit, slim Middle Aged woman. Her hair was blond and tied up in a messy ponytail, she wore a white tank covered with a pink cardigan, blue jeans and a pair of tan brown boots.
"Morning." Alex responded, a big grin planted on his face.
"It's so nice to finally have someone new in town! I'm Ruby Chester." She said in a peppy tone. Alex extended his hand out to her and introduced himself.
"Alex Robins and this is Julia Robins." Despite me being stood directly in front of her, Ruby's eyes were focused on him, her eyes practically twinkled when he smiled again. "Were so excited to join this neighbourhood." He continued, but by the way Ruby quickly checked him out, I knew she wasn't listening. I glanced at Alex and he was smirking, of course he was loving the attention he was getting from this woman, he thrived of attention especially when it came from the opposite sex.
"No we are glad to have you join us..." then her eyes quickly turned to me, "Mrs Robins?" She asked raising her eyebrow. When I nodded my head, her smile tightened for a second before she looked back at Alex, the look in her eyes resembled those that teenagers have when they see their celebrity crushes, she must have been ten years older than him at least. "You moving in from the city?" She asked running her hand through her ponytail. Her shiny wedding ring got caught in the sun and flashed in my eyes. She's married and practically throwing heart eyes at a guy younger than her.
