After, Alex left for work, I went on my jog again. I went back up the hill in the hopes of catching Jake again, but unfortunately he didn't show up. I didn't even see the guy he was talking to, or the man from last night, luckily I was able to get the footage from the camera without being seen, It was early morning and no one was around so it was the perfect opportunity. Once I retrieved the footage I headed back home. After my jog I took a shower and had a smoothie. I had hoped I would begin to feel drowsy but I didn't, I felt awake and energised. Which was clearly a bad thing.
Zoe and Joe came over in the afternoon to discuss the files on the server we downloaded. "I'm surprised the two of you haven't killed each other yet." Zoe said sipping on her glass of water. I had mentioned to her about searching for the cameras last night and how rude Alex was while we were there and in the morning. I failed to mention how I had not slept yet though. We were sat in the front room looking through the files, nothing interesting and incriminating was going after two hours of searching we had hundreds to still go though. Joe was sat on the far end of the table with his headphones on typing while Zoe and I were sat next to one another.
"We don't really talk much when he's here." I said shrugging my shoulders. I looked down to my laptop typing away. I could feel her gaze on me. "What?" I said looking up at her.
"Nothing, you both live in this big house and don't talk to each other?"
"Yeah, its a big house. He spends most of his time on one side and me on the other. We don't really have much to talk about." I tilted my head. "What's with the sudden interest?"
She pursed her lips, shaking her head. "Nothing." She looked back down to her laptop, letting out a loud groan. "Why are they all encrypted?"
"You couldn't have expected them to then open for everyone right?" Joe said from his seat. He hadn't said much since getting here. Silent Joe is what I wanted to call him. He was wearing a plain grey t-shirt with jeans, more casual than he had been wearing before. Since our talk in the car a couple days ago, I thought I'd make an effort to get to know the guy. "Sorry I was kidding." He said pushing his glasses up his nose when we didn't respond.
Zoe let out a laugh, "Don't apologise." She said smiling at him. "Any luck on your end?" She asked. He shook his head.
"Nothing, the only thing I can find is the companies expenses, I can definitely say that this company spends way too much money on donuts every Friday." He shook his head mumbling something to himself. I looked at Zoe who laughed silently.
I wondered what it was like for the two living together. Complete strangers, having to share a small flat together. Zoe may be shy but she was good at making friends, and Joe seemed to be someone she could get along with. I haven't witnessed them being hostile to one another so they must be doing okay. Better than me and Alex.
We spent a few more hours looking through the files before I gave up. I had been staring as a screen all day and nothing. I was getting frustrated at my lack of progress. Joe had given up an hour before I did and had moved to watch tv while eating a slice of pizza we ordered an hour ago. Zoe next to me was determined to find something. "I give up. I'll try again tomorrow, whys it so hard to find incriminating information on this company?" I said slumping into my seat.
"Oh there's a whole party going on here?" Alex said walking into the front room. Non of us heard him entering the house. Zoe looked up from her screen, erupting into laughter, seconds later even Joe started laughing. "What?" He said looking down at himself.
"You look...nice suit." Zoe said laughing again. Alex grinned, stroking his tie before laughing too.
"I'll have you know I'm the best dressed employee at that place." He walked over and sat on the sofa. "What you guys doing?" He did look better than he did this morning, he must have looked in the mirror and sorted his hair out, instead of bouncing in all different places it was flat in his face, unlike his usual gellled style. His tie was properly fitted and he had his blazer on this time and not throwing it around the place.
