Why the Nether was mother looking for me, let alone in the human domain. And why was she at the base! I need to go on ahead, I--I need to make sure the recruits are okay. The recruits have to be okay, we've never pulled up a protocol this important before!
Sky set his hand on my shoulder. He nodded in understanding at my panic, turning to the others, "Those who can fly will go ahead, the others will keep going on foot or by the trees. Grounders meet up with flyers ahead as soon as possible. Link up, everyone."
When everyone's earpieces were linked, I let my wings unfurl through slits I had put in the back of my shirt. Everyone that could fly transformed, even Ian who turned into a dragon. Jason's form even gave him an arm made of pure black bones.
"One, two, check," I said into my mic.
"Check," I heard a chorus of replies through my headphones, nodding to Sky.
We quickly thanked Max and Ross and set off into the sky. It took a few minutes at our current speed, but we made it to the base relatively shortly. Mother was wrecking chaos across the base, tearing down buildings and knocking down recruits.
Rage bubbled up inside me.
I turned off my mic and let out an ear-splitting demonic screech, catching her attention. A low growl slipped past my lips. A hand clasped my arm, pulling me back.
A yellow-ish force field pushed up from the base, pushing Mother and I out and separating me from the others. They were forced to land and revert back to their human forms thanks to the field.
"Ty! Someone let me out, Ty is stuck out there!" I heard Sky through my com, I saw him hitting and kicking the field from the inside. Safe. "Ty, don't do this!"
I turned away, flying before Mother. "What is it you want," I demanded, "why are you here!"
Her snaps and growls automatically translated in my mind, "I have finally found you after so many years, my little boy. Come back."
"I am never going back!" I yelled, "And you can't change that!"
"Then I'll force you too!" She snapped.
With that, we shot up into the clouds, throwing attacks left and right. I think I beat her? I don't remember much, it's all a blur.
I remember she--she started to fall. She clawed up my wing before she turned to dust, going back to the End. I remember falling. I fell, picking up speed the further down I got. The others were all there, trying to break the barrier from both sides. It lifted as I got closer to the ground.
"TY!"
Sky flew up to catch me, I think. I heard his voice. I was pressing my hands again my side, there was red and this burning feeling spreading through my nerves; blood and pain. Heh, I got blood on your shirt. Sorry.
"Get the med unit! Quentin--"
I shakily reached up and I pulled Sky down. I pressed a kiss to his lips, smiling as we pulled away. He brushed my bangs from my eyes, his own eyes glassy with tears.
"I did it . . . "
"Yes, you did," he choked out, "you did it. You beat her, and everyone is safe now. I know you're tired, but I need you to stay awake for me for just a little bit, okay? You can do that, right love?"
"I love you, Sky," I managed to whisper out, "don't you dare forget that."
I remember him shouting for me to stay awake. His cries of agony and heartbreak echoing out into the sky as night settled. I felt rain starting to drip, getting heavier and heavier by the second. He held me close, then his familiar warmth I longed to hold on to was pulled away.
"Please! Just wake up, I beg of you--I-I can't go through this again--I can't--I can't loose you too--"
And, in an instance, all that was left was darkness.
