"t- taehyung?" i glanced back at jimin in hopes that he would know what to do. "w-what are you doing here?" i questioned the man standing in front of me.
as if taehyung didn't hesitate for a second, he grasped my wrist and pulled me out of the house.
"taehyung what are you doing?" i asked repeatedly even though i still received no response from taehyung.
leading me into a place i wish wasn't familiar, taehyung let go of my wrist. i took a second to look at my now red-tinted wrist. "yah taehyung what was that for?" i whined.
"why didn't you tell me?" he asked, staring directly into my eyes.
i furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. i knew exactly where we were, i just didn't know why. taehyung then pointed to my once-lovers stone, xuxi. my breath hitched as i tried to hold back the tears, but some managed to slip from my eyes. taehyung cupped my face and wiped away the tears running down my cheeks and pulled me in for a hug. my arms wrapped around his waist as he pressed a small kiss onto my forehead and held me in his embrace.
i noticed he seemed anxious about something. he continued taking deep breaths in and out as if he needed to say something important.
"1304," taehyung said almost out of the blue.
"w-what?" i was even more confused now than before. the numbers had seemed familiar but i couldn't seem to put two and two together.
taehyung chuckled at my expression, "that's the house number right down the street of us." he simply stated, almost leaving me dumbfounded.
but then it hit me. i quickly rolled up my sleeve to reveal a blue and white braided bracelet, in which i have had since before i could remember. as if he were reading my mind, taehyung rolled up his sleeve exposing a worn-out braided bracelet that looked almost the exact same as mine.
i stared at the bracelet wrapped around his wrist and looked up at him. he took hold of my hands and stared back. after a few moments of comfortable silence staring into each other's eyes, his lips curved slightly.
i then broke the eye contact and began looking down at the ground, smiling to myself. all of the past memories had begun flooding back into my mind. both the good and the bad, but there was one that stood out more than the others.
"taehyung?"
"mmm"
"can i ask you a question?"
"of course you can, ae"
"why didn't you say goodbye?"
out of every single memory, i never remembered him saying goodbye. i began to remember the amount of tears shedded. i began to remember only having xuxi to go to. xuxi was always there when i needed him most, and taehyung wasnt.
"i couldn't face you ae," taehyung began as he intertwined his fingers with mine, the smile on his face now disappearing "i didn't have the heart to. i know i should have. i should have told you, i should have hugged you. i should have been there and enjoyed our last few moments together."
i took a moment to process this. but yet sadness and a bit of anger filled throughout my body.
"you broke me taehyung," i said as more and more memories began flooding back into my mind. "why didn't you tell me taehyung?" tears started filling the waterline of my eyes.
"i was going to ae. trust me i did. but i just wanted a fresh this time around. i didn't want you to think of me as the guy who left without a goodbye every time you saw your neighbor."
"and when were you going to do that kim taehyung? when were you going to be there when you knew i needed you most?" one by one, i felt tears beginning to fall from my eyes the more i continued.
taehyung took a deep breath in, knowing that any wrong word or movement would cause me to break any minute.
"do you remember the first night i moved in?" he asked and i nodded as i wiped away my tears with my sleeve. "i wanted to tell you then. i wanted to tell you right there. but instead, i choked up and asked for a ride. ae, i am so sorry. i know how wrong it was of me. and i will do anything, anything at all to make it up to you."
i don't know what it was, his tone, his voice, or his cuteness, but something about him made me soften up inside. "tae," i said getting closer to him and stroking a piece of hair away from his face "it's okay" his face lightened up as he lifted me up by the waist and spun me around.
"ae i will do anything for you, and i hope you know that. i even told your dad to act like he didn't remember me. i wanted to show you that i've changed for the better. that i'm not the same guy who left without saying a word." he said with a small chuckle and turned in another direction. "i promise to look after her," he started as he looked down at his old best friends grave. "i promise give her my all and to give her the world." i felt my cheeks turn a bright red. he then turned to face me, and held my hands in his.
"lee eun ae, i love you."
