I ran as fast as my feet could carry me. My shoes hit the rough gravel road at an unsteady pace, tripping on the flat surface, my ankles almost twisting when I turned and ran to the smooth cement pavement after a car honked loudly my way.

My sight diminished into narrow slits through which swollen eyes could barely make out two strangers walking my way. They stopped and their blurred mouths moved but I never stopped. I just kept on running and running.

I didn't even know where I was going. I had no destination in mind. No place felt safe anymore.

Riverton felt foreign to me now. My school, my house, even the narrow pavements I took to school everyday. It felt like I didn't belong here anymore, like an intruder in a strangers town.

Under my feet the smooth cement turned to green uneven grass and the next thing I knew I was racing through a park and into the woods.

Once I was amongst the obscurity of the trees I finally slowed down and caught my breath. My legs felt like jelly as I bent over and panted loudly. The tears never stopped falling but I was too exhausted to run anymore. Where was I going to go anyway?

I slid down against the wide bark of a tree and crumpled atop the dry leaves spread out around me. My heart felt hollow as the hope I once carried drained through my veins seeping into the ground.

I closed my eyes trying to shut out the vivid images flashing behind my eyes, bright like lightning and sharp like knives. The memories from an hour ago were so painful,so fresh, so shocking that they stabbed their way into my brain no matter how hard I tried to block them.

Going to school since senior year started has been more challenging than I ever expected but I had somehow managed to deal with it. What happened today was something I didn't think I could ever deal with.

A picture of Melanie's happy face greeting me at school formed in my thoughts like a movie. I remember mirroring her smile as I walked towards her. Unaware. Unknowing.

She had promised to help me figure out my problems without judgement. Those were words I could only dream from a best friend who had heard everything for the first time.

Our steps were in sync as we walked down the familiar hallway to our lockers. Heads held high, hearts on our sleeves.

That was until I realized everyone was looking at us. It was only when we reached our locker did I realize why. There was a picture of Zayn pasted on it, with the words "Obsessed" painted in red over his face.

From that second everything seemed to happen in slow motion. People whispering about how psychotic I was, the numerous posters strewn all over the floors on the other walkways and pasted on the walls with either my face or Zayn's.

They all carried the same message; that I was obsessed with him. And then the worst happened.

Before the morning announcements could be made on the speakers, an audio was played. A recording of two voices discussing how the new student Zayn was a vampire and that he was after one of them.

One voice was urgent, the other skeptical but supportive.

My body went rigid as I heard my voice echo through the halls. It felt unreal, like I was experiencing something in a different lifetime. Or like I was watching a movie.

But then I heard Mel's voice say my name. Telling me we would work this out and I responded gratefully, as I did the night of the party.

It was then that it finally hit me, knocking the wind out of me.
