~Harry~
"Are you ready, honey?" My mother asked cautiously as we pulled into a parking lot.
I stared ahead trying to focus my breathing and released my grip on the steering wheel. There were indentations where my fingers were and my knuckles were white.
I swallowed hard and kept my face neutral as I turned her way and nodded.
It's how it's been since my father left us when I was ten years old. My mother had been devastated and in and out of depression which had made me bottle up what ever I had been feeling just to stay strong for the both of us.
Even now when the roles were reversed and I could tell she was trying to be there for me it still felt like the other way around. I was still that same little boy holding back my screams and tears just to be strong for her.
Only today it felt worse. I couldn't help but blame myself for what had happened. If I had only got there sooner, would things have turned out the way they did?
We both got out of the car and walked into the building. Our footsteps echoed over the marble floors and I had to wipe away a sheen of sweat that had formed behind my neck. Was it just me or was it extremely warm in here?
When we reached the front desk, a small well dressed woman asked for our names.
Her eyebrows shot up when my mother mentioned mine and she immediately ushered us inside.
"Have a seat," She smiled warmly, her expression not really suiting our current surroundings.
I sat behind a large metal table and looked up at my mother who was staring at me worriedly.
"The officers will be with you in a minute, Mr. Harry. Would you like some coffee or tea?" She asked.
I shook my head and gave a polite smile which had to be one of the hardest things I've done today. I don't think I've smiled since last night.
"Okay, this might take awhile so do let me know if you need anything. Mrs. Styles you can follow me to the waiting area for the time being."
"You sure you're okay?" My mother asked with a frown that could rival mine.
Why did she always ask me questions that made no sense? How could I be okay after last night? Sometimes I felt it didn't matter if she believed my lies as long as she heard them.
"I'll be fine. See you later." And with that the door shut, leaving me alone in this small four walled room. A singled light bulb hung low from the ceiling and it shook slightly when the door opened again and two officers walked in.
They took a seat each across from me and then they smiled. Both of them looked like seasoned police officers who were around they're mid forties. They're tired eyes were friendly but I knew better than that to fall into that good cop bad cop crap.
"Good evening, Mr. Harry. I'm DI Tom and this is DI Brad. We wont take much of your time today. As you know, in light of what happened last night we will be taking statements from most of the people in your school and maybe your family if necessary," The dark haired inspector spoke and the blonde one took out a piece of paper and a little tape recorder and placed it between us.
I nodded my head and stared at the tape recorder. Seemed a little old fashioned considering our phones had tape recorders as well, and wouldn't someone have to type out the whole thing later?
"Well first things first. We understand that you and Rosalie have been closely acquainted for the past few weeks. We have several statements stating you were one of the only people she spent time with in school. And so we would like to ask if you ever noticed any erratic behavior on her part? Was she stressed in school? Bullied? Did she ever act out in any way in front of you?"
