The room became much colder than before. The light from the candles kept going off like someone was blowing them purposely. Hidou and Natsumi became a bit quiet after Ryoto's death. Everything became a mess.
Nari and I were going to be next, that's for sure. I could hear them muttering our names when we were acting like we were both asleep. Now that we weren't, they kept glancing at us before whispering something. And that's not pretty normal, you know. That just struck the suspicious zone for the both of us. As I glanced back at Hidou and Natsumi, I saw them approaching us with a serious look plastered on their faces.
"Miyuna and Nari, you're up," Natsumi said as we both stood up, dusting our uniforms before walking towards the door. Hidou then turned around, facing the both of us. I couldn't really tell if he was sad or a bit serious since his face left a serious look on it but his eyes hinted a little bit of sadness in them. Finally ignoring it, we both listened to what he has to say.
"We compiled the other students' death from newspaper clippings at the speaker room after both of us had died. We tried to guess who the killer was but unfortunately, none of them were fitting on the death case. The only suspects that could've done this were the Yukiko family. We weren't sure though but we had to start with someone," he explained as he showed us a map of the school.
"This is where the speaker room is. It's on the other building of the school. Just go to the 3rd floor and walk towards the door on the end of the hallway. You'll end up on the outside but it's just another way to go to the second building. There's more ghosts there so you have to be careful," Hidou continued as we sighed, knowing that it was dangerous to go alone in the first place.
"The outside's pitch black so you'll need some flashlights with you." Natsumi pointed out before giving us two flashlights along with some batteries. Both of them looked at each other before pushing us outside. Then, Shin and Katsu went outside with us – giving us a bored look before glancing back at Natsumi and Hidou.
"And, why are they here?" I asked as they both smiled, a bit amused at our reactions. Katsu and Shin, on the other hand, looked like they were about to kill their president and vice president on the spot. I didn't know why though.
"They're the set of flashlights that don't need batteries. And they could also be a heavy artillery on the way," Hidou said as we snickered, hearing the other two scoffing at the offensive remark. If I were them, I wouldn't be offended. After all, Hidou and Natsumi are ghosts too.
Looking at the dark corridor on my right, I saw someone walking a bit too fast before disappearing. I wasn't really sure who it was but I swore that I saw that it was a girl.
As my attention went back to Hidou, I noticed that Nari was already walking on my left with Shin in front of her. Shocked, I quickly followed her with Katsu beside me, his attention focused on the bulletin boards that we pass by. Shin, on the other hand, walked ahead and made sure that there weren't any ghost lurking around to kill us before walking upstairs.
Even though we grabbed their files and swore that we'll solve the case, we cannot be sure that they're going to be good to us.
It's best to be alert somehow.
Ascending, I swore that I could hear someone whistling a tune. Looking up front, I saw a boy swinging his katana as he make a large slash mark on the walls. Shin and Katsu quickly walked right, making me and Nari follow their tracks. Hell no, we aren't going to make that ghost angry. It has a katana and I don't want that damn thing to be the cause of our death.
Suddenly, the whistling stopped.
We heard a series of footsteps coming in our direction as Shin and Katsu took our hands before running towards the end of the hallway. Hearing someone breathing right behind us, I felt Katsu's hand leaving mine as he turned around and kicked the katana blade out of the boy's grasp.
"First, Haru broke my other katana to save that Honoka girl. And now, you're escaping with these students, Katsu? Just how damn imprudent are you both?" Matsuko asked as he picked up the katana from the floor. Katsu then scoffed before nodding at Shin.
"Take them out of here. I'll take care of Matsuko," he said before dodging an attack that was inches apart on getting him ripped into half. I blinked, noticing how he just randomly dodges Matsuko's strikes before kicking and punching him back. A bit dazed, I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"If you're not quite busy watching, can we go right now and get those files before another ghost comes out to get us?" Shin asked as I snapped out of my trance and nodded, giving one last look to Katsu before following him to the door.
Gripping the doorknob on my hands, I opened it and felt a rush of cold air hitting my face.
The hallway was dark and I could clearly see the outside. Well, I wouldn't say clearly. In other terms, I would've said blindly. But, I wasn't sure if it was still the same place. I couldn't see anything. In fact, it was pitch black – like someone had glued black papers on a wall and filled it up. No trees, no buildings, no people walking on the street. There was nothing.
Turning the flashlight on, Nari gave me a look.
"Do you think that we're trapped on a snow globe or something? I can't see anything but this building." I then shrugged, not knowing what to say. She was right, you know. I didn't even know if we were still on our world. All I can see is the door at the end of the bridge way.
"The real question is, are we still in Japan?" I exclaimed as Shin sighed, his skin glowing a bit. Hidou wasn't kidding. He was a pretty decent flashlight. I think he knew what I was thinking since he gave me a quick glare before he continued walking.
As we arrived at the door, Shin opened it and walked towards the only room that has light on it. Looking around, I could see words written in blood. Nari quickly noticed that I stopped on my tracks since she followed my gaze and gasped.
WON'T TELL TO THE POLICE
SHE TOOK MY HEAD
SHE KILLED THEM IN ENVY
LET US LIVE
SHE KILLED MY SISTER
Glancing back to Shin, he looked down – ignoring the bloody writings on the wall. I guess one of these was his. I then gave him pat on the shoulder, trying to comfort him. He just sighed, hiding the tears that slowly fell on his face. Wiping it a bit, he suddenly pushed the door open.
And what we saw was unexpected.
A girl sat there, looking at the monitor with a smirk. Her white hair flowed until it reached her shoulder and her violet eyes glinted a bit in the dark. I then noticed that her skin wasn't glowing as she glanced at us, smiling a bit in amusement.
"Looking for the files, aren't you?" she asked as Shin's face fell – quickly contorting in anger. Taking out his knife, he swung it as the girl dodged his attacks.
"Oh, my poor dear Shin. You can't kill me." Shin then scoffed, trying to attack her once again. But of course, she blocked his attack with her dagger. Smiling at his poor attempt, I heard Shin speaking up in a cold and serious tone.
"You're alive, I'm dead. I can kill you if I want to and you'll bleed. I'll make you suffer every damn second you have until you beg for me to end your miserable life," Shin's eyes glowed, his aura quickly changing into a dark one.
Suddenly, she just took it as a joke. She laughed as she kept dodging his attacks. Nari and I saw the files on the table but we can't reach it since both of them were in the way.
Then, the girl answered back to Shin with a grin, a hint of malice in her eyes.
"Oh? I would like to see you try."
