"Jaaaaaade!!!" I heard the joyful cry of my four year old sister Maggie as she ran down the stairs. I wasn't an only child now that Tracy and my dad got married. Maggie was my half sister (cause Tracy and my dad has her).
Maggie ran to me, jumping to hug my legs. I picked her up and acted as if she was a rocket, holding her by the armpits and soaring though the sky. She giggled.
Even though things weren't going to great I couldnt let that affect my relationship with my sister.
"How's my favourite little sister in the whole wide world been doing?" I asked putting her down.
"Good!" She jumped with excitement as I slipped out of my shoes, "Mommy got me some new barbies! Wanna play with me!"
I let her drag me to the living room where, like usual, all her toys were scattered across the living room floor.
On the couch, my dad and Tracy cuddled, watching some Peppa pig on the T.V screen.
"Hey kiddo." My dad said with a mouthful of of pancake.
Tracy rose from her spot on the couch, "We made some pancakes for you. Here let me get you some."
It was still morning, it being 9:00am a time where normal families would eat a normal breakfast. But, I only really ate breakfast at my dads, breakfast with my mom was a luxury.
"Thank you." I smiled, moving out of her way as she went to the kicthen.
I sat on the carpet and Maggie picked up a black haired Barbie "I named this girl Jade cause' she looks like you!".
And the doll really did. It had the same pale skin tone and blueish greenish eyes that I had. Her hair was short ending just at her shoulders like mine had. The only difference was that I had the lightest bit of waves and the doll didn't
"Kinda.."
"Yeah, It does." Maggie handed me a doll with knotted hair and a little hair brush.
"Brush her." She said.
I noticed my dad watching me will a small smile on his face, I turned to him and smiled.
"How's Lisa doing?" His voice was low.
I shrugged, "Not any better than the last time you saw her." He was talking about my mom.
He slowly nodded and cleared his throat, "Got enough money to put food on the table?"
I shook my head, "One meal a day in that house."
He let out a sigh and leaned forward to place a hand on my shoulder, "You do know you're always welcome to move in. I know Maggie would love to have you here."
I looked at Maggie, she was distracted by the colourful cartoons on the television screen, I turned my gaze back to him.
"Really?"
"Of course!" Tracy came in with a plate and a glass of orange juice, "I would love to have you here. We could spend some mother and daughter time together."
I smiled and accepted the plate she held out to me, "Thank you."
"But, the only thing is, You need to go to school. I know I wouldn't mind if you stayed home, but I know your mother would." My dad said as he leaned back into the sofa.
