"I can't believe that we're doing this all for a stupid girl," Leah mumbled.
"Hey, this is Huckleberry's future wife we are talking about, so shut up," Minho mumbled.
"Shut up, Minho," I snapped. Bandit started moving around in my backpack. I swung the backpack around, the flap of the backpack was open, Bandit's black and white head was peaking out. I petted his head softly, to stop his whining.
"You're getting mad at me?" Minho said, clearly offended.
"Yeah, cause you're the crazy one," Leah said.
"Would all of you, just shut up?" Max said in a hushed whisper.
"Everyone ready?" Mrs. Reed asked us. Everyone shook their heads up and down. "One...two...three!" Mrs. Reed threw Melody's bedroom door open and we all hurried inside.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" we all shouted. Melody was awake, smiling and laughing. All of us were piled into her room. By everyone, I mean everyone. Mrs. Reed and Mr. Reed had come inside carrying the huge cake. Mina, Zach, Kelley, Albert, Rose, Jack, Jake, Jazzy and Lilac were all in the room, each of them holding two balloons. Alice, Max, Minho, Michael, Mike, Macy, Leah and I were all inside, holding the presents we had all gotten her.
Hugs were given and we all went downstairs to have our breakfast, vanilla cake with strawberry frosting.
"I thought I was going to get that cake slammed in my face," Melody laughed as we ate the cake. We sat in the living room, all sitting down on the floor.
"That would have been something," I said.
"Why would we smash a perfectly good cake in your face?" Minho asked.
"Yeah, Melody? Why would you slam a perfectly good cake in someone's face?" I asked her.
"I ditto, ask Ray," she laughed. We started laughing, while Minho didn't do anything to hide his confusion.
"Melody, Ray, Hunter and Caine slammed a cake on my face the morning of my birthday," I explained to Minho.
"It's good luck!" Melody insisted.
"Good luck, for me to take a shower?" I asked. I flicked some of my frosting onto her face. "They also say that pinches are good luck," I told her.
"Then you need a few more, I'm your height and I'm still growing," Melody said.
"Yeah, you little midget," Minho laughed.
"I'm not that short," I insisted.
"How tall are you?" Minho asked. Minho was 5'10, it wasn't like he could complain.
"I'm five foot four," I said.
"Shorty," Minho teased.
"I'm the same height then," Melody said.
"Two shorties!" Minho shouted.
"Oh, shut up," I mumbled. It was true, I hadn't hit a growth spurt yet, and I was starting to worry. Alice said that Dad was a late bloomer too, but I was short compared to everyone else that was my age.
"When's your party?" Leah said as she came over and sat down with us.
"Kyle and I are sharing a birthday, since we were away for his birthday and they're so close to each other," Melody explained. It was cheaper this way too.
"Awwwww, couple goals," Minho mumbled. I elbowed him in the ribs, as Melody started talking again.
"We're just going to the beach with family and a few friends tomorrow," Melody said.
"Isn't Navas coming?" I asked Melody, with a smirk on my face. Minho's cheeks starting tinting red. Melody saw my smirk and Minho's face. She smiled.
"Oh yeah, isn't that great Minho?" Melody asked.
"Yeah, sure, um, I'm going to go and get more cake," he said quickly. He rushed out of the room, back to the kitchen to avoid any teasing.
"Tomorrow is going to be fun," Melody laughed.
"Who's Navas?" Leah asked.
"Minho's crush," I said.
"Awww," Leah said.
"Isn't your family from Florida coming in tonight and staying tomorrow?" Melody asked.
"Yup," I replied. The following day, I would be leaving back with them to Florida too.
"Can't you guys invite some actual friends?" Leah asked.
"What friends?" Melody and I said at the same time.
"You two have friends," Leah said.
"I have one friend at school that couldn't make it, I'm alone there, SINCE KYLE DECIDED TO LEAVE ME, not pointing fingers," Melody said.
"Yeah, I've been going to school down in Florida, my friends are down there," I said.
"We have friends in Alabama," Melody laughed.
"That's great guys," Leah said, rolling her eyes.
"Come on everyone, time for school," Alice called. She was already done, ready to go to her own college class of the day. Max started getting everyone ready, while Mrs. Reed started on her own kids.
"You two, be good, Mr. Reed is outside doing the dairy farm routine, if he needs help, You two are helping," Max told Leah and I. Leah wasn't registered for school yet, Alice said we were going to wait until I went back to Florida for that nonsense. I wasn't registered for school here ether, so I was just staying home.
"Bye!"
•••
We helped Mr. Reed outside all day, and the school day finished quickly and soon everyone was back. We hadn't even all gotten in the house before I recognized the two cars that went down the driveway.
My mom and her new family was here.
