Chapter Nine:
Panic at the Pizza Place:
Felix's POV:
I couldn't help but laugh at the man sitting right beside me with a pout on his face. We had been talking for the last fifteen minutes going back and forth with light questions about each other, occasionally answering something random one of the boys would ask.
So far I had found out he ran his family business though he wouldn't tell me what it was, just yet just said something about real-estate. I also learned that he loves the color blue but the deep sapphire blue like the hope diamond, not light blue, he hates reality T.V. and loves to run.
He already knew about me being an artist so I told him my favorite color is green and I love outdoors and swimming.
"Oh come on! It's not even that funny!" He huffed then shoved a piece of pizza into his mouth, practically inhaling it in one go.
"I just don't see how you managed to get all the way to school without noticing you had put your underwear on over your pants! I mean someone should have told you!" I laugh.
"If I ever do that you will tell me right away right Michie?" Dante asks him, his face completely serious.
"Promise." Michie nods back.
"Well are you going to tell me an embarrassing moment?" Isaac asks me while cleaning his greasy fingers on a napkin and pushing his plate aside, for now.
"Umm, well when Michie first came to live with me I had no experience with kids so I had never changed a diaper. I freaked out and threw up all over the nurse who had been taking care of him the first time she was showing me how and man it was bad." I answer while smiling and thinking back to a happier time.
"Believe it or not I'm a pro at diapers and bottles. I used to watch Dante all of the time when he was younger. The little rascal liked to gag me out of my office." Isaac chuckles with a playful glare thrown at his nephew who was trying a little too hard to look innocent.
I found my self smiling despite the fact that I was in an unfamiliar place with a man who is nothing but a stranger. His naturally dominating aura seemingly disappeared as we sat laughing and joking with Dante and Michael.
The mood light and the conversation easy. I knew it was too good to last.
"So," Isaac spoke in a cautious tone, making me stiffen instantly, "What brought you to our fair town of Willow Falls? I don't mean to pry, it's just we are small and no a lot of people come here."
My mind instantly went on the defensive but I forced my body to stay mostly relaxed as I contemplated what to tell him, how much of the truth I really wanted him to know. I felt inside of me that I could trust him but there are just some things that no one should never experience, let alone hear. I had trusted HIM and he had... I shook my head to dispel those thoughts.
He moved a little closer, not touching me but it felt more comforting oddly enough, and waited.
"Well," I cleared my throat as my voice crackled and I threw a glance at the boys to see them distracted by the coloring sheets the waitress had brought over, "I- I had been seeing someone and it..."
My stomach bubbled at the memories flashed through my mind bit by bit, not staying but enough to nauseate me. My hand moved down to clutch at my abdomen as I tried to find the words.
"Didn't end well?" Isaac asked, his voice rougher, deeper almost.
"That's an understatement. I'd rather not talk...or think about it." I whispered back.
