Chapter 9: Middleton Household

I never realized how big Kailey's house was. Then again I havent been to her house often. I parked near the home and went up to the gate. It had a speaker and a doorbell on it. I ranged it and an old man with a British accent answered it.

"Good evening. Welcome to the Middleton's household how may I help you?"
I then stuttered while answering his question.
"Uh.... I'm here for Kailey."
He then paused. "Jackson is this you? I told you to stop losing the keys!"
"No this Peter."
There was silence. "Ah Mr. Parker. My apologies."

He opended the gate to let me in. I went inside and he quickly closed it. While i was walking to the house, I saw beautiful flowers such as Jasmine, roses and orchids. There was also a little pond with a water fountain. When I went up the stairs and saw the old man opening the door. He had a formal clothes in and squeaky clean shoes. He had gray hair and big mustache with beard. He also had glasses.

"Mr. Parker. The Middletons are delighted that you came. Please come."
I went inside the home and let me tell you. It looked stunning. The had a big chandelier at the foyer eith two rounded stairs. On the right there was a living room. And on the left was an office.
"You may have a seat at the family room. Ms. Kailey will be here shortly."
"Thanks uh...."
"Guss. But I prefer Demetrius." He walked away while I was looking for the family room. But then I got so distracted by their awsome decorations I forgot what I was looking for. I went to another and it was the kitchen. The kitchen was white and dark brown. They had a farmhouse sink, a cool fridge looked the same worth the cabinets, two ovens, and a big ass island in the middle.

"I see you found the family room."
I turned around and talked with a nerveous voice.
"I was uhm.. looking at the kitchen. I'm sorry I was lost."
"Everyone says that. But Demetrius told you where to go so why were you here?"

"Ok whats with attitude Kailey. If you havent noticed, its been 3 years since the last time I came here. This is house is so freakishly gigantic, you can barely find where the front is. Do you really think I will remember where the room is?"

She bursted out laughing while I looked confused. Then I got mad.
"What the hell is so funny?" I asked.
She laughed again. "I always loved that you were so serious when people disrespec you."
"So you were just playing?"
She nodded. I started laughing.
"If I was a girl, I'll hit you in the face", I said.

"Fair enough." she said.

"How's your mother?" I asked. 

"She feels fine. Better than yesterday. We're hopefully taking her to a hospital tomorrow."

"Is the sickness that bad? I don't understand how your father wont take your mother to another country and found out if there is another cure."

"My father doesn't want to hurt my mother. He feels that the best way to let her rest in a peaceful way is let her be."

"But your mother is dying."

Her voice started to crack up. She was about to cry. I didn't want to let her so I changed the subject.

"What did you get on the AP Literature test?" I asked.

"I got a 95%. I heard someone got a 100% on their first try without studying. They also said they finished their test in 5 minutes."

"Yeah. That was Mia." She widended her eyes.

"Mia? The new student?" I nodded. "Oh my gosh. wow she must be really intelligent. you two would be perfect together."

"Shut up."

She laughed.  "I'm just kidding. Or was I?"

I gently punched her on the shoulder.

"Ms.Kailey?" Demetrius said behind the kitchen. "Your mother would like to speak to you."

Kailey hands started shaking and her eyes started to tear up. I held her hand and whisper to her. "Should I come with you?" She nodded. We went upstair slowly and came inside her moms room. her mom was on the bed looking weak. I held my tears. Seeing her mother must be very painful. 

"Hey Mom."

"Hey Sweetheart", her mother said with a cracked voice. 

"How are you doing?" Kailey asked. 

"I'm fine." Kailey started crying and held my hand tighter. "Don't cry Kailey please." 

"I'm getting some tissues." Kailey left her mother room. It was just her mom and me. I put my head praying that she wont asked any question about her daughter and I. Suddenly, she called me to come here. I widened my eyes and walked very slowly. Once I went to her bed, she held her hand. 

"Are you Kailey's boyfriend?" I nodded no. She then smiled."Do you like my daughter?"I smiled and nodded. She smiled.

"You must be Peter. Kailey has talked so much about you. Why did you two separate? Kailey and you would've been perfect then.....I don't know what his name is but what I can tell you I don't like the immature boy she's dating. He's setting a bad example to her."

I laughed softly. She held my hand tighter. 

"Promise me that when she breaks up with the guy, take care of her for her please. Make sure you take that boy off her head.Make sure you hold her when she's crying in pain. Make sure you ask her out and tell her you have my blessing when you're about to marry her in the future.  Promise me please."

I shed a tear and told her that I promise. Kailey came back and told me that her father is home. I closed the door and went down the stairs. I came inside the library and saw her father in the computer typing with his coffee next to him. He had hairy arms and brown hair with glasses. "Daddy, this is Peter remember?"

He looked up and saw us near the door. "Please Mr. Parker, come in." Kailey left while I was sitting at his chairs."

"How you been son?" 
"I'm fine."
"Are you sure?"
I nodded. 

"You know when you were young, Kailey will always tell me to take you guys out and have fun. In middle school, Kailey and I will always be at your track game when your father couldn't make it. Then you graduated middle school and became a freshman in high school. You, Kailey and Jackass will always come here after school and entertain each other. What happened? Did you three had a fight? What happened to the Peter that was happy and joyful?"

I put my head down. Then I took a deep breath and told him.

"It was freshman year. The day of Jack's soccer tryouts. We were all there supporting him and hoping he would be on the team. As he was trying out, I heard some guys making fun of a little kid. They were going to do some terrible things to him, so i tried to stop. Jack, told me that I should just let him and get the consequence since the little kid snitch on one of them. I told him he does not deserve it and I'm going to help him. He let me go and went back to the tryouts. But since the coach told him he was disqualified from tryouts, he was furious. He went back to me  it was my fault that I made him disqualified. Then he took Kailey and left. That's when our friendship was over." 

Kailey's dad took off his glasses and came in front of his desk. 
"Peter, I know you and I will know that it wasn't your fault. Jack was being an ass instead of being a freind. Dont tell him but I think you were going to ask Kailey out instead."

Does everyonce in this family hat Jack that much?

"Thank you Mr.Middleton. I better get going. My dad will be curious and ask me questions why I wasnt home before him."

I stood up from my seat and waited for Kailey to say goodbye.

"Thanks for coming. I really needed it." She gave me a hug for a long time.

Demetrius opended the door after I hugged Kailey. I left the house and entered the car.

The Middletons Household. The days I will never forget.
