Happy Halloween 🍂
Enjoy Chapter 10 of Avery's Friend
_________
When the bell rang Avery was the last one out of the class, she trudged slowly towards the front entrance. Looking up briefly Avery sees Emma looking around nervously before seeing Avery and she lit up with a huge smile on her face, Emma waves towards Avery enthusiastically causing everyone's attention to turn towards her and Avery ducks her head, hiding her face behind her hair she rushes over to Emma.
Emma chatted non-stop unknowing to her that Avery was not replying, she led Avery towards a flash looking car Nike was sitting behind the wheel and he seemed bored, a small smile came on his face when he saw Emma but it was immediately replaced with a scowl when he spotted Avery close behind.
This made Avery extremely anxious her mind began turning gears as she over-analysed what he could possibly be thinking right now and none of it was positive, he kissed Emma on the lips as she sat in the front seat as Avery stayed standing at the door of the back seat. "Aren't you going to hop in?" Emma asked as she leaned out the open window, Avery nods opening the door and getting in. The first thing she does is buckle her seat belt.
Avery let out a shaky breath as the car pulled out its parking space, clinging to the seat belt as Nike sped away from the school building. "We're going to my house to get ready," Emma says as if reading Avery's mind, Avery nodded not sure if Emma saw her or not. They pull into a driveway and a small cottage in the middle-class suburb, both Emma and Avery got out of the car. Avery awkwardly waits by the front door while Emma kissed Nike goodbye, it seemed like a very long goodbye kiss.
Emma blushed as she unlocked her front door, she leads Avery inside apologising about the mess. "I have two little brothers, they like to make a mess of the house," she says tidying up a little before showing Avery to her room. Emma rushed into her closet pulling out different clothes, "take a seat on the bed I'm just looking for something for both of us to wear tonight" Emma said tossing out shirts as Avery's sat on the edge of the bed.
It didn't take long for Emma to find an outfit for herself, now the hard part was finding an outfit for Avery to wear. Although Avery assured Emma that anything was fine, Emma wanted her to have a perfect outfit for tonight's party. "Is there any colour you like?" Emma asked while rummaging through her drawers of clothes.
"Red" Avery says quickly and Emma's smile widened if it were even possible,
"The colour of romance, very seductive" she giggles making Avery blush with embarrassment.
"Red was my grandmothers favourite colour and I don't get to see her all that often anymore it reminds me of her that's why it's my favourite," Avery answers shyly as Emma finally picks out an outfit. That's the longest sentence that Avery has said in weeks, she felt kind of proud being able to say that much.
She noticed the outfit that Emma picked and she cringed slightly seeing how much little fabric it had, "I-is that a dress?" She asked and Emma laughed shaking her head.
"Of course not it's just a shirt, I was thinking of pairing this with a denim skirt" she almost squealed and Avery smiled politely knowing she'll be showing a lot more skin than she's used to.
Avery's final outfit was the red shirt that fit tight on her body with a checkered black and white skater skirt and a pair of black and white vans, Emma insisted on doing Avery's make up to which she kindly refused and compromised with wearing a bold red lipstick that completed her outfit.
Emma wore a yellow dress with white daisies on it and a pair of white sneakers to complete her outfit, her hair was in a simple messy braid to finish her look. Avery thought it fit her personality really well, whereas her own outfit although she found it quite nice it made her feel like a fish out of water.
They stayed a while longer in her room just listening to music while Emma made discussion and Avery replying with one-word answers. There was a honk from outside and Emma peaked through her curtain and let out an excited squeal before grabbing her purse and Avery dragging them out of the room, Avery was going to grab her school bag when Emma said "we can come back and get it before we take you home" Avery nodded as they got into the car. Nike wolf-whistled and Emma blushed as she kissed him on the cheek.
Avery hopped into the back seat putting on her seat belt as she tugged on her skirt wanting it to at least be at her knees. Nike started the car and drove off as Emma turned on the radio playing a mix of songs Avery hardly recognised. "I'm so excited to see Nami again, I'm pretty sure Jurojin will be pleased too," Emma says to Nike and he nods as Avery scrunched her face in confusion, Emma looked into the rearview mirror and noticed Avery's confused expression and laughed softly.
"I forgot to mention this party is a welcome back surprise get together for Jurojin's girlfriend Nami, she's been in Japan the past couple of months with her family" Emma explains and Avery nods understanding a bit more. "I'm so excited for you to meet her, but just a heads up sometimes she can come off as a bit rude or upfront but once you get to know her she's a really great friend" Emma smiles and starts humming along to the song playing. Avery found that hard to believe knowing that with Emma's personality she would consider almost everyone a good friend.
This was going to be one long night.
