Avery's Friend

"Thanatos" Avery responds avoiding his blatant stare. 

"Every time I go to look for you, you seem to disappear" he leans in closer, his scent of cigarettes making Avery want to gag. 

"I've been busy" her reply comes out as a small squeak, Avery takes a step back. 

Thanatos takes a step forward, "have lunch with me, sweetheart" he murmurs taking her hand and dragging her along leaving no room for protest. 

Pushing her into the seat Avery is across from Emma who greets her with a wide smile, Nike a polite nod. "Hey Avery," Nami greets pulling Avery into a side hug. Jurojin looks up from his book, Atropos scoffs and struts off away from the table. 

"Don't mind her" Emma smiles awkwardly at Avery, "she's in a bad mood" Emma comments looking back quickly at Atropos's retreating figure. 

"She claims you stole her man" Nami remarks deliberately changing her pronunciation, she snickers ignoring Nike's glares. 

"What, when did I-?" Avery doesn't finish her sentence as a fuming Lucian walks in, "oh" she finally says, as Lucian grabs her arm and pulls her away. 

"What are you doing Lucian, this one's already marked" Thanatos comments causing Lucian to freeze in place. 

Avery looks between Lucian and the group at the table who are also looking at Lucian and Thanatos. 

"Αν μας ακολουθήσετε από αυτή την αίθουσα, θα σας κόψω το λαιμό" Lucian threatens Thanatos before dragging Avery out of the room. 

Avery follows, wondering what he said but also feeling very frightened at this. Before anything could come from this situation the school bell rung, "I need to get to class" Avery says trying to pull her arm from Lucian's grip, but it only tightens. 

"Skipping once won't hurt you," he says his voice monotone and void of any emotion. He continues to drag her, past her class. 

"No, it will" she argues trying even more to loosen his grip. "Lucian let go, it's starting to hurt" Avery whimpers. 

"Oh shit, I'm sor-" Lucian let's go not even getting to finish his sentence before Avery sprints away into her maths class. She's not quite paying attention to her surroundings and she bumps into Atropos. 

"Watch where you're going" she growls, shooting Avery a disgusted look. 

"Sorry" Avery apologises ducking her head and heading to her seat, and annoyed-looking Lucian now at the door. 

"Mr Cifer, would you care to join the class?" the teacher speaks walking past Lucian with a cup of coffee in his hand and a stack of test papers in the other. 

Lucian doesn't respond only trudging to his seat beside Avery. He doesn't pay any attention towards Avery for that entire hour, which surprisingly for Avery is bothering her. 

Then she remembers the incident inside the library, how could she have forgotten. Avery wanted to kick herself, she didn't know how to apologise now the scenario on how it was meant to go was all muddled now. 

Avery ripped out a small corner from the back of her maths book, quickly she wrote, 

I'm sorry about what happened earlier in the library, I didn't mean to scare you, and I found this paper on the page you were reading I don't know what it means to you, but maybe you could tell me about it another time when you're not mad at me. Friends? - Avery

She slipped the post-it note into her apology note and folded it in half before sliding the paper to Lucian's side of the table. 

At first, he ignores the paper, while Avery anxiously watches to see if he'll open it upon hearing the bell ring it's only then Avery realises she spent the last 20 minutes of class in silent anticipation waiting for him to open it, but he doesn't. Lucian simply takes her notes shoving it into his pocket and walking out of the classroom. 

Before Avery could go after him Atropos is blocking her way, "I said back off" she hisses between her teeth and fake smile, yet her eyes screamed hell. 

Avery doesn't say anything in reply but maintains eye contact, which is a first for her. Atropos strides away flicking her hair over her shoulder giving Avery one last glare. 

Avery walks to her next class, choosing to ignore this threat from Atropos but keeping in mind what she read on her laptop. She was sceptical but just in case this was true it would be in her best interest to be on her good side. 

"Hey Avery" Nami calls from across the hall, Avery waves quickly walking over to her. "What class do you have now?" Nami asks as she walks alongside Avery. 

"Biology" Avery comments heading towards one of the science labs. 

Nami looks at her timetable, "With Mr Myer?" she questions Avery as they walk into the lab. 

Avery nods, 

"Then we're in the same class" Nami links her arm with Avery, "where do you sit?" 

"in the front, closest to the front door" Avery answers taking her seat, Nami taking the empty seat beside her. 

"Do you sit with anyone?" Nami gestures to the seat she now occupies.

Avery shakes her head, "only when I'm paired with someone for an experiment" she comments becoming quiet once the teacher walks into the room rolling a cart with lungs and equipment. 

"Okay everyone today we will be looking at the respiratory system, and since we legally aren't allowed to use human specimens I have the next best thing, sheep" he held up a lung hoping to get a reaction from the class. 

"You'll be partnered with whomever you are seated with currently" he hands out the sets of equipment to each bench and a sheep lung. 

"Just what every girl dreams of" Nami snickers taking a scalpel and stabbing the lung. 

"We needed to be able to see it inflate and deflate" Avery mentions looking at the list of things to study after the gaping hole had been made. 

"Mr Myer, we need another lung" Nami proclaims and everyone in the class looks at their desk, Nami holding the lungs in her handheld up high. 

"Luckily she had already put on her gloves" Avery comments to herself choosing to ignore Nami and the class and focusing on seeing if they had all the necessary tools. 

"You only get one pair of lungs kids, so don't smoke, it will give you pneumonia" Mr Myer jokes, again getting no reaction from his unenthusiastic students.
