Right then all that Avery wanted to do was go home and lay in her bed or be with her father. Not surrounded by teenage girls with over-glossed lips or hair so stiff with hairspray, because all she would hear from them were mean or snarky remarks about her or another unfortunate soul they decide to pick on.
She made her way to the library greeting the librarian with a shy smile, she grabbed a pile of books and began to put them back on the shelves. Knowing that the librarian would contact her teacher asking to mark her as present because Avery is helping in the library.
Avery liked that the librarian would do this for her whenever she couldn't stand to be in class with those girls, "how are you Avery, dear" she gives Avery a soft smile and she nods her head.
"I'm doing okay" Her reply half true,
"Well if you ever need a break from class, feel free to pop in anytime" Avery nods gratefully for the librarian's kindness. Avery grabs another stack of books as the librarian goes to help a student looking for a book on the history of Civil Rights, Avery hums softly when she feels as if eyes are on her.
She looks around only to find students on the computers and their heads in books studying, Avery shakes the feeling and goes back to the task at hand. She hears a voice saying "psst come over here" the voice is coming from the historical section of the library, Avery looks around not sure if the person is talking to her. It seemed more likely it was for another person rather than Avery, "Hey Avery over here" and Avery looks to see Emma waving with a smile and she waves her hand indicating for Avery to come over.
Avery walks over to the shelves filled with old books and meets Emma, she is surprised to see Nike leaning against the shelf. Avery wondered if or when the shelf would fall or collapse against him, "you wanted something?" Avery asks quietly looking between a stone-faced Nike and overly smiley Emma,
"I wanted to invite you to a party we're hosting tonight" Emma smiles softly grabbing Avery's shoulder. Her over-enthusiastic attitude made Avery feel as if she had to accept this invitation, even if she didn't want to go.
"Sure, I'd love to" she smiles at Emma who's squeals and claps her hands together giddily,
"That's great, just give me your phone number and I'll text you the details later," Emma says as Nike comes and hugs her from behind, his broad features make Emma seem so much smaller.
"Hurry up I want to go," he grumbles and Emma smiles, looking back towards Avery.
"I-I don't have a phone" she mumbles not expecting Emma to text her details when she could tell her where and when right there.
"Oh, we might have a problem then," Emma says as she stops smiling, Avery doesn't like Emma without a smile on her face, it doesn't seem to suit her bubbly personality.
"We'll pick you up from your house," Nike says pulling Emma away before Avery could object but they're off, Emma's giggling could be heard as they left the library. Avery let out a shaky breath as she leaned against the edge of the shelf, that interaction taking a toll on her. But they didn't know where she lived, Avery thought as she went back to the front of the library. The rest of that class time Avery spent in various parts of the library.
When the bell finally went it was time for lunch and Avery excused herself quickly walking off to her secret spot, she was slightly disheartened to see a figure already sitting there. Avery was about to turn around and go when the voice spoke from directly behind her, giving Avery a fright. "Aren't you going to join me for lunch?" Avery turned quickly with a small yelp as she bumped her head against the figure, looking up she saw Lucian Cifer with a blank look on his face yet his eyes twinkled with mischief. Avery stuttered not actually forming any sort of reply.
He grabbed her arm and dragged her towards where he was previously sitting, leaving Avery no room to argue as she was pulled to the ground. Lucian swiftly stole her bag from her shoulder and began looking through her belongings rambling on about the small amount of food, Avery sat there with her mouth hanging open as he dropped her bag to the ground beside his own as he opened his bag and pulled out two sandwiches. Lucian offered one to Avery who took it whispering a soft thanks as he took a bite of his sandwich and Avery watched him.
Lucian raised an eyebrow at Avery and she blushed hiding her face behind her hair and took a small bite of the sandwich before she started coughing and spit out the chewed bread. Avery quickly rummages through her bag for her water bottle, taking a large swig of water she spits it out onto the grass. "Eggs, I'm allergic" she wheezes catching her breath.
"Oh, I had no clue," Lucian says, rubbing the back of his neck, "are you okay though?" Avery nods and smiles.
Lucian lets out a breath of relief, he puts her book back into her bag before taking the rest of the uneaten sandwich and throwing it in the bin. "Can't have you dying, I just got here"
He gets up, giving Avery one last look before walking out of the secret spot, just when he leaves Avery's sight the warning bell rings a reminder that last-day class is going to begin in five minutes. Avery grabs her bag and walks slowly to class she takes her seat just a class is about to begin, Avery spent the last hour of school her mind in a daze but before she could relax she remembered about the party.
