Avery's Friend

What was meant to be a small get together ended up turning into a crowded house filled with half-drunk teenagers and music blasting so loud that all Avery could hear was the bass sound. Once the party had started Avery lost Emma amongst the crowd and not being familiar with Nike's house didn't help her.

 Avery found herself in a bathroom and quickly locked the door as she hid from all these people she didn't know. Looking at herself in the mirror she could see her panicked expression from having lost Emma, she wasn't comfortable in a foreign place without someone she knew.

She stayed in the solitude of the bathroom until she heard aggressive knocking and groans coming from the other side of the door "hurry up in there I have to puke"the voice of a male slurred continuing to bang on the door. Avery quickly opened the door as the figure pushed past her hunching over the toilet, she left closing the door behind her before the small amount of food in her stomach threatened to escape too. The music was loud once again and Avery cringed as she covered her ears hoping that it would make a difference, it didn't.

"Avery there you are, I want to introduce you to Nami" Emma walked into her giggling like mad she was a little tipsy, 

"How much have you drunk?" Avery asked softly as Emma dragged her closer towards the blasting music. Emma must have not heard that question as she danced her way towards Nike who was sitting at a table with Jurojin and a girl that Avery faintly recognised but couldn't quite place where she knew her from. 

"Nami this is my new friend Avery," Emma says letting go of Avery's hand as Nike pulls her into his lap, Avery waves shyly as Nami looks at her before her eyes go wide.

"Avery? Avery Luis" Nami asks and Avery nods feeling a bit overwhelmed at her direct attention, "it's been so long you look so different" Nami whispers before pulling Avery into a tight hug, which is apparently shocking as everyone else around the table looked surprised. "You didn't say it was Avery Luis," she says smiling towards Emma, who just shrugged smiling back at Nami. 

"I didn't know you two already knew each other" Emma giggles into Nike's shoulder as he tickles her sides. 

"She was my best friend in elementary before I moved to Japan" Nami finally let go of Avery and went back to sit beside Jurojin who had an intense gaze in Avery. 

"Is that where you met Jurojin?" Avery asked softly unsure if she would even hear over the loud music, Nami nods glancing at him and noticing that he still has an intense gaze on Avery.

Nami smiles, "we met and trained with the same sensei" Jurojin nods. 

"Wait where's Atropos?" Emma says looking around curiously, 

"Probably sucking Thanatos face" Nami snickers softly and Nike bangs his fist on the table. 

"Shut up Nami, you know nothing, learn your place" he growls and Avery flinches as Emma goes silent no longer in a cheerful mood, but Nami doesn't seem fazed by his outburst if anything she sends him a menacing look matching his own.

"You are amongst my kind if anything you should learn yours" her mouth twitches in a snarl as she stares at Nike without blinking, Avery shifts on her feet feeling really uncomfortable. Looking towards Jurojin surprised that he has a smug look towards Nike, Avery didn't understand what Nami meant but their tense atmosphere changed when a weight suddenly falls across Avery's shoulders and a familiar voice said cheerfully.

"What's with all the tension I could sense it from across the room" Avery looks out the corner of her eye and sees Thanatos he has a cheeky smile on his face and he glances at Avery and winks as she looks down embarrassed he caught her looking. 

"Nami great to see you again, bring me some mochi back?" Thanatos jokes as Nami's face relaxes and looks away from Nike. Nami shakes her head and looks between Avery and Thanatos with a weary look. Nami shuffles closer to Jurojin and whispers something to him that Avery couldn't hear.

But with both of them constantly looking towards her while they whispered to themselves made Avery think they were talking about her, and this thought alone made her extremely uncomfortable even if it weren't the truth. "Where's Atropos?" Emma asks Thanatos, her voice sounding less slurred and Avery hoped that the alcohol was wearing off and Emma was sobering up. 

"Why should I know?" and Emma shrugs, 

"I don't know because you guys have been a couple for almost a year now," she said with a pointed look almost similar to one a mother would give to her son after she'd have to repeat herself twice.

Avery wasn't surprised at this new information about Thanatos and Atropos, they seemed like the type of couple that would continuously break up and get back together again. "Past tense, we're not together and it's going to stay that way" he had a look of determination when Avery caught a glimpse of his face. 

Avery watched his eyes travel up and down her body slowly and it made her extremely uncomfortable and violated as she hugged herself shying away from his intense gaze, "quit eye raping her" Nami scoffed snapping both Avery and Thanatos out of their bubble of thought.

Thanatos scowled letting go of Avery and walking away clearly bored of the conversation now, Avery sighed in relief as Nami ushered her to sit with them at the table which she agreed to politely. Nike brought out a pack of cards and suggested a game of poker, everyone agreed and with all their eyes on Avery, she felt she had to say yes. A little into their game of poker which surprisingly for her first time ever playing Avery was winning she noticed something odd.

Nami had a matching tattoo of Japanese kanji to Jurojin, it reminded her of the symbol tattoo that Emma has matched with Nike.

And the weird burn mark on her arm that recently formed into an ancient symbol looking tattoo that matched Thanatos.
