Atropos sighed before grabbing her purse and leaving, both girls either side of her followed behind like lost puppies. Avery let out a small sigh of relief, the only people left at the table was a brunette haired girl, a buff looking guy and a tall skinny guy with his head stuck into a book. Avery thought they were kind of an odd bunch together, she made awkward eye contact while gawking at the brunette girl and she gave her a smile "I'm Emma" she grabs Avery's hand and shakes it firmly, Avery nods quickly taking her hand back and subtly wiping it against her pants.
She has a symbol on her forearm, it's different from the one that's Avery and Thanatos's symbols. The buff looking guy next to Emma pulled her flush against his body and she blushed while giggling. "You didn't introduce me" he scowled before the girl blushed, shaking her head "sorry" she mumbles bowing her head before looking at me "this is Nike" Avery nods glancing at him briefly before looking away. "That's Jurojin" she whispers pointing towards the guy behind a book, "he's extremely smart" Emma whispers. Leaving Avery to wonder why she has never heard of these people if they are as popular as they seem.
The bell rings shortly after and Avery hurries away from the table to her next class. She ignores the stares from everyone around her as she rushes into the classroom taking her seat. Breathing heavily she calms her racing heart, as everyone fills the room taking their seats. She can feel a pair of eyes on her and she looks around noticing Jurojin, a curious look on his face as he shamelessly stares at her unaffected by knowing Avery is aware of his roaming eyes.
The rest of Avery's day went like a blur, the only thing she could possibly remember was feeling many more eyes on her than before. This made her feel uncomfortable, she wanted to disappear into a cloud so she was hidden from the judging eyes of others. Hearing the bell finally ring Avery sprints out the door, racing home to the comfort of her room. Reaching her house she notices her mother's car outside and the front door open wide, walking in tentatively she's unsure of what was going on. Avery could found her mother in her parent's bedroom aggressively shoving clothes into a suitcase.
"What are you doing?" she asks bewildered although obvious that her mother is packing a suitcase, she wonders where her father is, "I'm leaving" her mother lets out a frustrated sigh before slamming the suitcase shut and dragging it out the door pushing past Avery making her stumble back a little. Following her mother, she opens the car door and getting, her mother looks at Avery for a moment and her tone softens as she gets out of the car pulling Avery into a tight embrace. "Honey remember that I love you, okay, and none of this is your fault" her mother's eyes are brimmed with tears and she gives Avery one more tight squeeze before getting into the car.
Avery watched as her mother's car pulled out of the driveway and down the road, a few stray tears fell down her cheeks and she wondered where her father was in this mess. She walked back into the house closing the door behind her, walking into her room Avery is surprised to find her father looking distraught while sitting on her bed. Avery approaches him cautiously having never seen her father quite like this before, she sits next to her father wrapping her arms around him and he looks towards her with a sad smile.
"Avery Honey, you're home already?," her father says his voice shaking slightly and Avery nods her head slowly, "I better get dinner started" he chuckles wiping his eyes before getting up. "Do you want a snack? I can get you something while you study?" stunned at her father's sudden change of attitude, she declines politely to her father as he leaves she closes the door behind him and slides to the floor leaning against her bedroom door, her legs no longer seeming able to hold her up.
Avery sits wondering what her mother meant when she said those words, she wondered when she would come back if her mother would come back at all. Eventually, she got up walking over to her desk, school notes scattered across it. Avery sighs but went right to studying the different chemical compounds and how they react to each other, a couple of hours later she heard a loud bang coming from downstairs along with a loud string of curses. She rushes down to see what the commotion was about and she found her father cradling his left hand and when she noticed the blood, she went to his side after grabbing the first aid kit.
"Let me take care of it" Avery offered gently grabbing her father's cut hand, she cleans the would and wraps it. She works silently her mind completely focused on the task at hand, "your mother won't be coming back" her father says randomly making Avery stop what she is doing but she refuses to meet his eyes. "While she was on a work trip a month ago, she slept with one of her workmates" hearing the pain in her father's voice as he tells her.
"she found out she was pregnant with his child this morning, and she's leaving to start a family with him" Avery wrapping the last part she gives her fathers right hand a small squeeze, unsure how to properly comfort him at the news of his wife's betrayal. "Have a rest, I'll finish in here" Avery says gently, gesturing towards the living room which he nods his head walking towards the couch. Avery finishes cooking serving the food onto two plates and packing the rest away into the fridge, she brings the plates into the living room setting them onto the coffee table, she hears her father mumble some words under his breath.
