Top 10 - Diversity
Vidhi Patel has spent a large part of her childhood immersed in the world of politics. Now, after graduating from medical school and becoming a pediatrician, she has to make life-changing decisions. Get married and go down the pat...
"I will take care of the kitchen, why don't you go to bed?" I suggested, knowing she had a full day of work tomorrow, while I was busy doing....well, nothing. Perks of being an elective teacher.
"I can't leave you here to clean up in my kitchen! We can do it together." She responded hands on her hips, causing me to suppress the laughter threatening to explode from within me. Seeing my terrible attempt at hiding my chortling, she asked,
"What is so funny?"
"You, my dear," I responded with raised eyebrows before continuing, "Go to sleep, Vidhi! I'm not the one who has to be up at whatever godforsaken time to run her own business. I will carry you up there myself and you know it." I collected the dirty pans and the like, transferring them to the double sink.
"I just can't win, can I?" She sighed and walked so that she was beside me, "Thank you, really. You never cease to amaze me, Terrence Favaro. You know where the spare key is. Good night."
Wrapping her tiny arms around my torso from behind, she squished me in one of her signature motherly bear hugs. Turning around so that I was facing her, I wrapped my arms around and lifted her small stature off the ground, just enough to elicit a squeal. Putting her down, I bid her a good night and continued on with the task ahead of me.

After all the dishes, pans, and bowls were washed, dried, and put back in their proper place, I wiped down the counters and stepped back to admire my work. As I went to grab my phone from the side counter, I noticed that Vidhi's phone had been left there as well, notifications constantly popping up on the screen. Damn, everyone wanted my girl's attention. I tried out her old passcode and was unsurprised to find that it was still her code. Predictable AF Vidhi. Setting an alarm for 6:30 am, I quietly went upstairs where Vidhi was curled up on her bed, wearing running shorts and an oversized college tee. Carefully plugging in her phone, I placed it on her nightstand. As I turned to leave, I saw goosebumps gracing her arms. Go figure, she kicked off all the blankets. Pulling the sheets over her tiny form, I tucked her in, smoothing her hair back from her face.
"G'night, Vidhi," I whispered before exiting her room. Going downstairs, I grabbed my phone and the spare key, heading over to my apartment.
Tomorrow morning was going to be delicious.
