Scott was still riding the buzz of a successful opening night, feeling confident and even more outgoing than normal. He had spilled some juice on his costume shirt, so he had to go change into a spare tank top he brought with him. When he came back, Sam had pulled him aside to talk to someone they wanted him to meet. He hadn’t known what to expect.
Whatever he was expecting, it certainly wasn’t this tall glass of water.
The rather tall man leaning against the wall looked like he would rather be anywhere else in the world, but he perked up some upon their approach. His eyes were a soft blue-gray and partially hidden behind a pair of purple glasses. He was wearing ripped black jeans and a button-up dark blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His raven hair looked effortlessly tousled.
Scott fought back a blush when the man’s cool gaze scanned his form, instead quirking his lips into a smirk and raising an eyebrow. Like what you see? His expression seemed to project.
He was granted the lovely sight of the man blushing lightly. The man lowers his drink and directs his gaze to Sam as they start to speak. Scott can’t seem to tear his gaze away from the man- Jonathan’s face.
When the dark haired man holds out his hand, Scott considers his options. He could just shake his hand like a normal person, but that seems too formal. Bolstered by the confidence of still being in Theatre Mode, he presses a kiss to Jonathan’s knuckles like one would for royalty.
The tall man becomes very flustered, but doesn’t draw his hand back right away. Sam excuses themself and then it’s just the two of them. Jonathan finally seems to realize Scott is still holding his hand and draws his hand back quickly.
“So… uh,” Jonathan starts, then has to clear his throat and take a moment to compose himself before he continues. Scott waits patiently, silently mourning the loss of the blush as it is wrangled back under control by the taller man. Scott smiles at him winningly but Jonathan seems determined to look anywhere but at him.
“The show turned out really good,” Jonathan offers awkwardly, fiddling with the him of his shirt. Oh, are they doing the conversation thing now? Scott can totally hold a conversation.
“I’m glad you thought so! This is a really great cast and crew to work with, everyone is so talented and helpful, I can’t brag about them enough,” the shorter man exclaims, brightening up enough that his smile almost hurts to look at. Jonathan catches it out of the corner of his eye and smiles slightly as well. Scott’s happiness is infectious.
“Yeah. It takes a whole army to keep everything running smoothly, eh?” Jonathan jokes, finally meeting his gaze again. Scott feels his breath catch when those blue-gray eyes settle on his own, feels as though something is clicking into place in his chest. His smile grows brighter still.
They end up talking for the rest of the cast party. Jonathan expresses his happiness over the diversity of the cast and their choice of play. Scott agrees that there needs to be more representation in mainstream media. Their conversation is cut short, however, when one of Scott’s friends hesitantly approaches them.
“I don’t mean to interrupt but… uh… Scott? You know how you said you’d give me a ride? I mean I totally understand if you can’t, I can ask someone else…” the quiet man mumbles, fiddling with one of the bracelets around his wrist.
“Oh! I’m so sorry, Jea, I almost forgot. Of course I can still give you a ride home. I just got wrapped up in talking,” Scott scrambles to reassure him. “Do you want to leave now?”
“If you want to,” Jea replies with a tense shrug. Scott turns to Jonathan with an apologetic smile and explanation ready on his lips. Jonathan speaks up before he can, though.
“I should be heading home soon, too, I guess,” The tall man says, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
Scott bites his lip for a moment before replying, “Yeah. It is getting late… Still, I’d love to talk more. I could… give you my number, if you want?” For the first time, the outgoing man seems a bit hesitant. Jonathan’s surprised smile eases some of his nerves.
“Sure,” the dark haired man replies, perhaps a bit too quickly. He laughs at his own awkwardness and it dispels some of the tension as he pulls his phone from his pocket and hands it to Scott.
Scott trades him for his own phone and quickly puts in his contact information. He takes a quick selfie for the profile picture as Jonathan rolls his eyes fondly at his antics. The man was already warming up to him, he could tell.
With his phone back in his hands and slipped back into his pocket, Scott drapes an arm around Jea’s shoulders and turns to leave.
“Hey, Scott?” The man in question looks over his shoulder at Jonathan, who had spoken up.
“I’ll see you around sometime,” Jonathan finishes with a hesitant smile.
“I’d like that,” Scott replies, grinning. The smile doesn’t fade from his lips as he turns towards the exit once more.
