Top 10 - Diversity
Vidhi Patel has spent a large part of her childhood immersed in the world of politics. Now, after graduating from medical school and becoming a pediatrician, she has to make life-changing decisions. Get married and go down the pat...
"Oh no, you did not just do that!" I exclaimed as a cloud of flour went up in my face. His apparent chuckles echoed around the nearly empty kitchen. Sneakily, I pinched some flour off my kneading surface and casually went over to him under the guise of checking on the pie filling.
"Are the apples ready?" I innocently asked, checking beside Terrence's stirring form. Picking the spoon out of the pot and dipping in a tasting spoon, he fed me some of the heavenly smelling apple filling. Closing my eyes and savoring the warmth of the spices with the slightly tart apples, I felt a fuzzy glow within me, warming me throughout. Opening my eyes and seeing the perfect opportunity, I flung the flour into his face and got some of his collar on the way.
"Well, looks like you two are having fun," Gabrielle states playfully from the kitchen entrance, taking in our flour-covered selves. Spinning around to Terrence, I caught him red-handed, about to sprinkle flour over my resting arm.
"Wow, they look just like we did our first married Thanksgiving, don't they?" Rafael observed, putting a loving arm around his wife. Smiling at the adorableness, I sighed, causing Terrence to give me a quizzical look.
"Your parents are adorable. Even after decades, they are lovesick college kids. Makes me believe in real-life love." I explained, rolling out the pie crust as I talked.
"You wanna switch? After these many years, I think I'm pretty immune to the lovey-doveyness of the whole thing." He said, rolling his eyes.
Oh, you have no idea how good you have it, Terr-bear, I thought, watching him return to his stirring station. Taking a step back and absorbing the whole area, I smiled, the warmth returning. A perfect family Thanksgiving.

Terrence's POV:
Pulling the turkey out of the oven, I yelled, "The hot bird has left the coop! I repeat the hot bird has left the coop!"
Putting down the turkey for my dad to finish up, I crossed the length of the kitchen to stand next to Vidhi as I saw her grimace at her phone before setting it down on the counter.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked, putting an arm around her shoulders.
"Eh, nothing. How's the turkey coming?" She sidestepped, putting up a smile. Storing this memory for further discussion, I answered and saw movement outside the door from the corner of my eye.
"Oh Vidhi dear, I think your folks are here. I'll go get the door." my mom announced seeing my head nod towards the door. Nodding, I opened the drawer that held our silverware and placements as Vidhi followed suit.
As we followed each other around the table, our parents could be heard socializing in the foyer, pleasantries being exchanged. Vidhi began transferring dishes to the center as I carved the turkey.
