Terrence's POV:
"So the demographics in this area are favorable for the primary elections, so we have to focus our campaigning on this area," I explained to Vidhi, circling a few towns on the election map.
Leaning on my shoulder, she replied,
"Alright, expert. I'll leave the strategy to you," Laughing, I got up from the couch to put our mugs in the sink only to be stopped by the doorbell ringing.
Turning to Vidhi, I asked, "Are you expecting anyone?"
Shaking her head, I gestured towards the door and she groaned as I chuckled at the fact that she had just gotten so comfy on the couch.
Hearing the door swing open, I heard her ask, "Hi, can I help you?"
A male voice responded in an irritated tone,
"Well, I thought you would ready by now, but that's okay. We still have 30 minutes before our reservation."
Deciding to wait and see how she handled this, I didn't come out of the kitchen, waiting on her response.
"I'm sorry, I think you have the wrong apartment number. Who are you looking for?"
"You of course! Your mom told me that you would be ready by 6 tonight, so I figured I should be a little early. No matter, I'll wait." Figuring it was time I come out of my odd hiding spot, I walked back into the living room to see a young guy dressed in a suit and slicked back hair.
A look of surprise and confusion crossed both of our faces as we took the other in.
Vidhi looked at me in horror and I nudged my head towards the staircase. Rolling her eyes, she headed up and I confronted the guy in front of me who looked questionable.
"Hi, I'm Terrence. Who are you?" I inquired, stretching out a hand to the stranger who had made himself so comfortable on the chair.
Shaking my hand weakly, he replied,
"Jayesh Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of MobiTech. And what do you do?"
"I'm the choir director at River Falls High School. So, what are your intentions with Vidhi? Hmm?" I asked him as politely as I could, although I really just wanted to kick him out and never see him again.
"Oh, that's nice. Well, to marry her of course. She's nice enough to bring around to all the events I have to go to as CEO. But between you and me, she could stand to look more presentable and put some makeup on." His words infuriated me, but for the sake of letting Vidhi make her own decisions, I took a deep breath, gave him a grimace combined with an uncomfortable smile.
Hearing the steps creak, we turned simultaneously to find one, snazzily dressed Vidhi, looking one part scared out of her skin and the other plastering on the fake smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
"You look-" Jayesh and I said in unison before I went on to finish with "sharp" as he said, "nice". Giving him a look, I handed Vidhi her phone off the couch and gave her a reassuring smile.
While she went off to grab her coat and purse, I turned to Jayesh,
"If you dare try anything or hurt her in any way, you can be sure you will be seeing me. Understood?" His eyes widened as he nodded his head.
Satisfied, I went to Vidhi and whispered,
"If you need anything, call or text me." Smiling with evident gratitude, she gave me a hug and looked over at Jayesh,
"Well, let's head out. Good night Terrence."
"Night Vidhi," I responded, waiting until they had closed the door to look through the window and see them get into a blue Aston Martin. Seeing them drive off, I did the first anyone would do...I Googled him.
