1.2 Cave men

As soon as those words left my mouth... I had one of those feelings like you've already lived that moment, as if you've already said those words, seen that person react to those words, I know Anna will laugh at my joke and that I will smile back. And yes, Anna laughs and I smile back. But my head is filled with confusion and my thoughts drift off. I see weird things. I see the half rotten person in the cave... no I see other people. Half rotten people walking towards me. I see people die, I hear people scream. I feel pain, I smell the air and it smells like when you open the trash can, but then ten times worse. Then everything goes black. As I open my eyes I see the school nurse's face hovering over me to my right she looks over to someone to my left and says "He's awake." I look at where the nurse looks and I see Anna, she asks "Are you okay?!" I have no time to answer but as soon as I open my mouth she looks at the nurse and asks her the same question "Is he going to be okay?" The nurse laughs and says "Yes, he probably just fainted because he needed to eat something." Anna looks back at me and asks "Can you get up?" I giggle "Yes, why wouldn't I" I get up and the nurse shoves a cookie and some chocolate milk in my hands and says "You have to eat something." I nod and open the cookie's wrapping and take a bite, I look at the nurse and look if she approves. The nurse smiles and turns around and continues with what she probably was doing before I came into her office. I look at Anna, who looks worried. We get out of the room and go back to class. Anna stops me "You don't have to go to class, you know, I'm sure everyone understands if you go home." I look at Anna "It's way more fun to be at school than being home alone." We both start laughing, Anna and I start walking as she says "Yea, because school is like the best thing ever." We giggle and enter the classroom. mr. Smit looks up from his desk "Ah I see our favourite student has recovered from his fall." I just look at him and go to my place. And just when I'm about to sit down I realize something and I look up, "The power is back?" I look at Anna who had already sat down "Yep the power went back up a few minutes after you fainted." I look at mr. Smit and back at Anna "I'll be back in a sec." I walk towards mr. Smit and he looks up from his desk, as I have eeached his desk I ask him "Do you know why the power shut down? I mean what happened?" He looks down "To be honest, I haven't thought about checking." I look at his laptop and back at him "Well, what are you waiting for? Look it up." He starts typing on his keyboard and presses enter and scrolls with his mouse. He clicks and starts reading something. His eyes widen and he looks at me "It's weird, but the power stations got attacked by what it seems some kind of cannibals. They think it were some kind of specialised terrorists. They say North- and South - America are still having problems to connect with the outside world." I look at his computer "That's... weird... and creepy... was there anything else? Just cannibalistic terrorists?" He looks up from his computer, no that's it. I nod and turn around to walk back to my seat. As I start walking mr. Smit explains what he just found out to the rest of the class. Anna looks at me and looks as she needs to say something, I look at her and say "What is it?" She looks at me and says, whispering, "What if it has something to do with the man they found in the cave?" Those words don't leave my head and the rest of school I can't stop thinking about it, what if it does? What if that man in the cave, that wanted to bite those people who found him actually bit someone and that person transported some kind of virus over to someone else and it just kept on spreading until it got where it needed to be... what if this is the end of the world. When I hear the bell that means it's the end of class, I ask Anna if she needed to go to the bathroom, I know we don't go to the same bath room, but we usually walk together and just wait for eachother. She nods and we ask the teacher if we can use the restroom, that teacher is a complete asshole, he's too classy. He wants us to use proper words. Uch... English teachers. As we exit the classroom and walk towards the restroom I stop Anna "I can't stop thinking about what you said, about the cave man being the one who started this. What if you're right? What if the world is ending and we don't even know it is ." Anna looks at me and smiles in a comforting way "It was probably just my imagination." I look at one of the lockers in the hallway "And mine." She smiles and we continue our walk to the restroom so we can rest before going back to class, I guess that's why they named it restroom, so people can have an excuse to leave whoever they're talking or listening to. As I wait for Anna I see the lights flickering and in a second all of the lights go off, again. I hear Anna scream, I open the door to the ladies restroom and say "It's just the lights that went off." She sighs and flushes the toilet "Again?" As I close the door I hear people screaminh downstairs, I run into the ladies bathroom, "Anna, there's screaming downstairs!" Anna looks up from washing her hands and as she's drying her hands, she says "We should probably go back to class and ask mr. Blok what to do. I nod and we jog back to class, Anna opens the door and I ask mr. Blok what we are going to do. His face goes from normal to focussed, you're all going to stay here and I'll take a look. He gets up and leaves the classroom. The class starts talking and Anna and I go back to our seats, Janice and Jennifer turn around and Janice asks "Do you guys think this has anything to do with the power going off again?" I look at Anna and back at Janice and Jennifer "I don't know..."
