Chapter 21

•Brittany's POV•

It has been about five months since I'd left Hayes. We talked on the phone and texted for the first month after we'd left each other, but after that, we just kinda stopped.

Neither of us texted each other anymore. It almost seemed like we'd forgotten about each other, but not quite.

I still miss his warm hugs and our friendly conversations. But most of all, I miss being able to kiss him.

He now had almost two million followers on instagram and over two-and-a-half million on vine.

I figured he'd forgotten about me. I mean, we were never anything...official. We just had small childish feelings.

Hayes was also older than me now. He just turned fourteen, and I was still thirteen.

His birthday was actually the last time I had texted him, but he never responded.

In fact, he hadn't responded to my texts a month before that either.

He really moved on quick.

But anyways, I've had one new boyfriend since I left Hayes. His name was Jackson, everyone called him Jack.

Jack was really sweet and nice, he was cute too. He had dirty blonde hair that was almost always in a quiff and warm brown eyes.

They were nothing compared to Hayes' bright blue ones though.

The reason we didn't work out was, well, he cheated on me, with one of my best friends.

Peyton.

Let's just say...she's not one of my best friends anymore.

And remember that creepy note that anonymous left on my window at the ski place? I'm still trying to figure out who did that.

I just think it's some crazy fan.

Me and Peyton aren't friends anymore, so I lost a friend. But I also made a new friend! Her name is Hayley. She's really sweet and everyone loves her.

Hayley's also three, almost four years older than me. But age didn't matter because she got along really well with everyone.

Now my so called 'group' of friends are Caroline, Ashton, Hayley and I. We do almost everything together.

They're like my second family.

We still talk about my little run in/dream with Hayes Grier. But now we just started calling it, 'the day everything changed' because my life really did change that day that I met him on the slopes.

Now that was gone.

But I was okay, I still had all of my wonderful friends (minus Peyton) who helped me get over him.

*back to present time*

School had ended for all of us last Friday and it was now Wednesday.

I was upstairs in my room scrolling through my instagram feed on my phone.

Ever since Hayes posted those pictures with me tagged in them, I'd sorta become famous.

Even thought we don't talk anymore and we don't even follow each other, my 'fame' is still growing.

I currently have 72k and it's going up by about 2k a month.

But now that I have a lot of followers, I have to be careful about what I post because it tends to 'spread' a lot more than the normal instagram user.

I've been spending a lot of time upstairs in my room. Mostly I'm just on my phone and stuff like that. But it gets on my parents nerves.

They're constantly telling me to get up and do something productive and to put my phone away.

Anyways, I was on instagram when I heard my mom call me and James (my little brother who's currently ten) downstairs.

When I walked into the living room where the rest of my family was, my mom started talking.

"Since school just got out, I've come up with a way to kick off our summer" she says. "How about we go to the beach?"

"YES!" I scream while jumping up from my couch where I was sitting.

"That sounds good to me" my dad says.

"Yessssss I love the beach!" James says.

"Okay. I've already looked at places to stay and I'm going to book this place in Myrtle Beach. It's got three bedrooms. One for me and your father, one for James, and one for you Brittany" my mom says. "There is also an extra bed in one of the kids rooms so one of you can bring a friend."

"Oh oh oh can I bring someone pleaseeeee?" I beg. James got to bring a friend last time we went to the beach so now it was my turn.

"Yes honey you can. Since James brought Connor (one of his friends from school) last time we went, it's Brittany's turn to bring someone. Who would you like to bring?"

"Can I bring Hayley?" I ask. I wanted to bring her because she was one of my newest friends and I've never gone on vacation with her before.

"Yes you may bring her" my mom says. "Just let me call her parents and talk to them about it before we make plans. Okay?"

"Okay mom. But can you please hurry?!"

"I was thinking that we will leave Friday morning and come back Tuesday afternoon" she says. "First I'll book our place and then I'll call Hayley's parents."

"Yes I can't wait!"

And with that, I run upstairs and start packing for the beach.

I tend to over pack, but who cares. Too much is better than too little right?

We were going to stay for three nights and four days. So I packed 'reasonably' in my opinion.

About twenty minutes later my mom yelled my name from downstairs.

"Coming mom!" I yell back.

Then I went down.

"Okay so I just spoke with Hayley's parents and they said it was fine for her to come with us" my mom tells me.

"Yay! So we'll pick her up when we leave?"

"Yep. We'll swing by her house on our way out."

"Okay sounds good mom! Now I've gotta go finish packing."

When I got back upstairs I checked my phone. I had three new instagram followers and a text from Hayley.

Hayley: hey! Thank you sm for inviting me to the beach with y'all! I can't wait

Me: me either! It's going to be soo much fun. Who knows, we might see some cute boys there😏

Hayley: truuu! Ugh I can't wait to tan. I'm pale as a ghost😬

Me: hahahah I feel ya. Well I gtg pack. See you then!❤️❤️

Hayley: bye bye see ya sooooon😘

Then I wen back to my packing.
