Chapter 16

Scully's POV

"Mulder." that's all I can say.

"Scully," he said back.

The way he said my name made me take a deep breath. It's been a long time, it's been 12 years since the last time someone called me Scully. He was the only one calling me that.

It was awkward because we both knew we didn't know what to do.

Until he cleared his throat and said "Hi...how...how are you?" and he looked at Aira and his eyes were asking about her.

"I am ok. Ahm, this is...this is my daughter Aira. Aira say hi to my...my friend Fox Mulder." I am still shaken by what is happening.

"Hello mister Fox Mulder," said Aira while waving. "I love your name sir."

"Thank you..." he said as he smiled. And I felt this happiness inside me seeing his smile again. "That is so sweet of you Aira."

Aira giggled.

"She is so beautiful," he said.

"Thank you."

"She looks just like you"

I smiled. And asked, "How are you?"

"I am fine," he answered.

It was awkward then both of us said "What you've been up to?"

I smiled. Again both of us said, "You first."

And then we laughed. And he was the one who talked first " I am working in NYU. I'm a Psychology professor."

"Wow that's..that's great" I wanted to ask him about his alien obessesions but I just didn't. I just continued "I'm working in Presbyterian Medical Center children's division."

"You're a Pediatrician?"

"Yes."

He smiled and it felt like my heart melted with it. I miss that smile.

"It's always been your dream to be a doctor."

"Yes."

He remembered.

And then there's that awkward silence again.

He rubbed the back of his neck and said "So, ahm... Are you with your ahm, husband?"

"Oh no, we're not. Just me and my Aira." I said uncomfortably. And I think he noticed it and from the way he looked at me his eyes were asking why. "I am ah... My husband and I... My ex husband rather, just divorced last year."

He was surprised and at the same time I saw his eyes lighten up but he immediately blinked and said "I'm sorry to hear about it."

"That's okay. It was not a happy married life after all. By the way, Brad is my ex-husband."

And that surprised him.

"It's a long story, Mulder. You don't want to hear it." and just before he opened his mouth a woman called her.

"Fox! There you are." said the beautiful, blonde woman as she gave him cheek-to-cheek. I was a little surprised but who am I to to feel that?

"Sheena." clearly Mulder was not prepared for that he looked at us and then "Ahm, Scu, Dana this is my colleague Sheena. Sheena this is Dana, my..." he looked at me deeply. "My friend, one of my closest friends."

"Hi nice to meet you, Sheena," I said as I extended my right hand to her for a handshake.

"Nice to meet you too, Dana," she said with a smile.

Then she averted her attention to Mulder. She touched his left arm and said "I saw your car parked over there so I figured you're here coz I know how you love this place." she said still flashing that beauty queen smile as she looked at me.

And since it's getting more awkward I decided that Aira and I should leave and change my coffee to to go.

"It's nice seeing you again Mulder. Bye." I smiled at him and from the looks of it he wanted me to stay but he looked at Sheena who was still smiling, and it's kind of annoying now.

"Yes, me too," he said.

"Let's go, sweetie," I said as I waited for my daughter's hand to hold mine. And then we left them. They went back to Mulder's table. As I looked back I saw him watching me while Sheena was busy talking.
