ALEXI
The beeping of the machine was really irritating. It seemed to beat in rhythm with the headache I'm sporting. My body also hurts, especially my shoulder. I shifted slightly on the narrow bed feeling the tape pulling at my skin. The next thing I noticed was the chemical smell that only came with hospitals. Why the hell am I in a hospital? A piece of memory flashed through my mind. It was faint but gone before I could grab onto it. Letting out a groan, I slowly opened my eyes. The ceiling above me was white and so were the walls. Turning my head slightly my body tensed as pain flashed through me. A soft gasp from my left drew my attention.
I turned my head slowly, eyes widening as they fell on the woman. She's short but plump with greying hair. Her hair was tied back at her lower neck in a tight bun. The blue and white uniform she's wearing looked very uncomfortable.
"I'll go call Mr. Tyson," she muttered, hurrying out of the room.
The door closed softly behind her with a click. Rolling my eyes I carefully pushed myself up with my hands. The pain wasn't so bad, just a dull throb. I'm hit by dizziness the moment I sat up. My body felt weak and shaky, something I absolutely hated. My eyes snapped to the door as it opened minutes later. A tall man entered followed by another. I blinked surprised to find them looking exactly alike.
Identical.
"It's good to see you awake," he smiled. "They gave you a strong dose of pain medicine to help with the pain."
I said nothing. It was pretty hard to concentrate with identical twins standing mere feet away. Hot twins. They were tall, about 6'3, maybe taller if I had to guess. Broad shoulders led down to narrow hips and muscular legs. My eyes darted between them before landing on the man who entered first. He's dressed in black slacks and a white dress shirt. He wore no tie which gave me a glimpse of defined collarbones. The shirt was rolled up to his elbows. His hair, a dark chocolate brown was slightly curly but cut short. Square jaw and high cheekbones with a straight nose and pink lips. My eyes finally locked with his making a wave of shock flash through me. Forest green eyes stared back at me in amusement. I could feel my cheeks heating.
His brother stepped forward snapping my attention towards him. Unlike the other man, he's dressed casually in a pair of jeans and a black plain T-shirt. His hair was longer. Pulled back from his face and tied into a ponytail. This man was paler, no golden tan like his twin. Disappointment washed through me when I found his eyes covered by dark sunglasses.
"My name is Slade," the one dressed in slacks, said softly. He gestured to his brother. "My brother, Fury."
"Hi," I whispered.
"How are you feeling?" Slade questioned, stepping closer.
"Fine thank you," I paused glancing between them, "What happened?"
Silence settled when neither of them said anything. I didn't miss the look they shared. Ignoring the IV, I lifted my hand towards my shoulder. My fingers touched a bandage. I frowned trying to remember what happened yesterday. I remembered driving down a long road that seemed endless. Then the car started jerking before shutting down. After that, it's all a blur.
"You don't remember?"
I shook my head dropping my hand to my lap.
"You were attacked by some wolves a few miles from town," Slade said softly. "Some residents camping in the forest heard you scream. They called it in and we went out. You don't have to worry about your belongings, it's safe."
"Thank you."
What else could I say? A wolf bit me? I know I'm lucky to be alive then. How many wolves were there?
"Where are you headed?" Fury asked the question. It's the first time I've heard him speak since they stepped into the room.
"Uuu..," I hesitated, "my grandmother left me a house in town."
"Shit," Slade muttered. "When will she be returning? When she left, she said that she will only be gone for a few days. It's been weeks."
I swallowed the lump in my throat. They knew my grandmother and by the look of things they cared deeply for her.
"She died," my voice cracked as I saw the shock flashing through his eyes.
He staggered backwards sucking in a shocked breath. I saw the tremor run through their bodies.
"Excuse me," Fury muttered, seconds before storming out of the room.
"I'm sorry."
Slade shook his head turning his back on me. "I should be the one to say that to you," his voice came out hoarse, "she spoke very fondly of you. I know the two of you were close."
A lot closer than any of my other family members. We use to talk for hours whether on the phone or in person. The conversations between us never died down.
"I'll have someone take your things to her house." He walked out of the room without a second glance.
I sagged back against the pillows. A bunch of questions flashed through my mind. They must have cared deeply for her to have that reaction. Slade and Fury. Grandmother mentioned them once or twice, but she never went into detail about them. My hair tickled my neck making me sigh. Reaching up, I moved it back wincing as I felt how dirty it was. I could do with a warm bath. The door opened again jerking my attention towards it. A slim man stepped inside wearing a long lab coat. His short blond hair was combed back neatly. He's about an inch shorter than me. The badge on his coat stated that he's doctor Kidman. I wanted to burst out laughing at the name. Kidman, I bet he gets teased a lot because of that.
"Good morning miss White," He gave me a friendly smile. "It's been a rough night after you were brought in."
"I don't remember," I told him honestly.
He smiled picking up the clipboard at the end of the bed. "It's common after what happened. You've had a big shock last night, but I assure you that your memory will return with time."
The minutes ticked by as he read. He made some notes on a notepad, but said nothing. I'm starting to grow uncomfortable. Do something Lexi!
"Um..." I licked my lips waiting for him to look up. "Can I go home yet? I feel perfectly fine. The pain isn't so bad, just a dull throb."
"We wanted to keep you here for the night, but if you want to go we won't stop you," he finally lowered the clipboard to look at me, "I'll have a nurse come in to remove the IV and bring you some clothes."
I blinked as he walked out of the room before I could ask anything else. Weird, I thought frowning at the door. Isn't he suppose to check me over and make sure I'm okay? Then he had to get the paperwork for me to sign before I'm discharged.
Something was seriously wrong with this town.
