ALEXI

They're not human.

I squeezed my eyes shut gripping his shoulders tighter as he moved. The trees were a blur as he moved with a speed unknown to humans. Everything that had happened in the past few minutes was a blur. The images of those men, those creatures were stuck in my head. I don't think I would be able to forget it anytime soon. Fury's steps slowed making my eyes snap open. He stepped out onto a clearing. Darkness no longer surrounded us. Small lanterns hung in trees lighting an unknown path. Turning my head, I sucked in a deep breath. A double story house stood in front of us. Three small steps led onto a wrap-around porch where flower pots hung. To the left was a swing chair facing the forest. The front door opened and seconds later a large silhouette filled it. A whimper fell from my lips. It didn't go unnoticed by Fury. His arms around me tightened as he spoke.

"It's my brother." His lips brushed my ear.

He took the steps, pausing briefly so his brother could move out of the way. Warmth surrounded us the moment we stepped inside the house. The door closed snapping my attention towards Slade. He turned eyes locking with mine. I broke contact first burying my face against his brother's neck.

"Take her to the study."

We turned down a hall. Then another. Slade passed us opening a door that creaked as he opened it. The atmosphere changed the moment we stepped through the door. It felt colder. A fire blazed in the fireplace to the left of the room. Leather couches sat a few feet away facing the flames. A thick white rug laid on the floor between them.

Fury lowered me onto on of the couches. My head snapped up fear once again filling me as he moved away.

"Shh," he smiled. "You're safe princess."

My eyes followed him as he walked out of the room before snapping to Slade. They're not human. Humans don't growl. Humans don't have the ability to move at such great speed. They don't have fangs and they definitely don't heal without care. My body trembled uncontrollably as I sat on the leather couch. I don't even want to think of what would have happened if Fury hadn't appeared.

"Hey."

My body jerked in fright eyes snapping up to Slade. He stood in front of me holding out a small glass filled with golden liquid. I took it from him letting out a cry as the liquid splashed onto the white carpet. A warm hand closed over mine to steady the shaking. Giving me a small smile he guided the glass to my lips. I eagerly drank the liquid welcoming the burn. Once the glass was empty he slowly pulled it back making my hand drop. I watched him silently as he moved away from me across the room. Slade placed the empty glass on a dark wooden bar at one corner of the room. Green eyes studied me with concern and something else I couldn't place.

"Are you one of them?" I whispered. The cold in my body had disappeared and warmth from the drink replaced it.

Slade said nothing. He walked towards me again taking a seat on the couch opposite me. Sitting forward he placed his elbows on his knees.

"What do you mean?"

I swallowed looking down at my lap. How do I explain this without sounding crazy? What if he's human and what I saw and heard was just my imagination? I was saved from answering when Fury entered the room. He was shirtless, his chest clean from all blood. My eyes instantly dropped to his hip where the knife was stuck earlier. I expected a bandage there to cover the deep wound. All that I saw was a faint red mark, a scar at least three inches long. I stumbled to my feet glancing between them. My eyes moved to Fury as I stepped closer towards him. Stopping in front of him, I reached out tracing the scar with a fingertip. His skin was cool to the touch making me frown. Fury shivered. He swallowed loudly snapping my eyes up to his. I took in his darkening eyes and thin lips.

"Your bath is ready," Slade stepped forward.

Dropping my hand I stepped back. I felt dizzy, my legs shaking from the strain it took to keep me standing. Slade surprised me when he stepped forward picking me up. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he started moving. Seconds later he started climbing a set of stairs. I turned my head pressing my face against his neck. He smelled of nature. Fresh. Slade walked down a hall turning to enter a small room filled with steam.

"Do you need any help?" He asked, lowering me slowly to the floor.

I stared at the bath filled half with warm water. It looked really inviting.

"I'm going to leave the door open," he stepped towards it, "just yell if you need anything."

Long after he left I still stood there. My brain was ordering my body to move but my limbs were frozen in place. The shock of what happened finally caught up. Tears filled my eyes as the reality of what would have happened became more clear. A icy chill swept through my body causing my knees to give way beneath me. I sank to the floor with a sob falling from my lips. They would have raped me then kill me leaving my body out there.

"Alexi," hands gripped my arms pulling me against a bare chest. "Calm down princess. You're safe, no one will hurt you."

Pulling away I stared up at Fury through blurry eyes. "T-they w-would have r-raped m-me. T-they were s-so c-close-"

"I know," Fury said, stroking my dirty hair.

"Let's get her clean."

I looked up at Slade as he entered the bathroom closing the door softly behind him. Kneeling next to us he reached for the jacket. His eyes locked with mine as he pulled the zip down. Fury pulled the jacket off dropping it to the floor. He stood pulling me to my feet along with him.

Slade stepped closer, "We'll take care of you baby."

I nod. Tears continued to trail down my cheeks. Unknown emotion filled me as they helped me into the bath. Slade gently washed me all while keeping his eyes locked with mine. Once he was sure that all the dirt and blood had been cleaned, he helped me out of the bath. Fury wrapped a thick towel around me before picking me up. He carried me out of the bathroom and down the hall to the right. Double doors opened into a large bedroom. Based on the colours of it, I could tell this room belonged to one of them.

I'm placed down in front of the queen size bed. After my body was dried, Slade slid a large T-shirt over my head. Fury took my hand leading me around the bed. He pulled back the thick coverlet helping me onto the bed. My eyes started to droop. I suddenly felt extremely tired.

"Go to sleep baby. We'll keep you safe."
