ALEXI

Rain fell heavily against the roof and windows. The trees outside swayed with the force of the wind. It was hard to make out anything two feet in front of me. I use to love weather like this, a day in bed with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book. Now, I hate the rain. It's been two weeks since the attack. Two weeks since I've last seen either twin. They wouldn't let me leave so I had to wait until morning. Slade drove me home after giving me a long speech about staying indoors. Apparently the town had a curfew, one the people failed to mention. I've kept my mind busy by cleaning and packing away some of my grandmother's stuff. The things I brought with me was still packed in the boxes standing in the spare bedroom. Packing away her things was painful. Every little thing reminded me of her, especially the collection of her favourite TV series.

Letting out a slow breath I turned away from the window. I made my way into the kitchen switching on the kettle. Taking out a cup from the cupboard I turned to get the milk. A knock on the door made me tense. My head snapped towards the front door. Seconds passed before the knock sounded again.

"Alexi."

My shoulders sagged in relief as I recognized the deep voice. Changing the direction of my route, I made my way towards the front door. Quickly undoing the deadbolt and unlocking the door, I slid it open. Slade stood the with his back to the door. The moment I opened it he span around giving me a breathtaking smile.

"May I come in?" He questioned.

Nodding, I stepped aside for him to enter. As he passed me I sucked in a deep breath. The smell of rain and earth instantly filled my nostrils. I closed the door behind him then led the way back to the kitchen. The space suddenly seemed smaller with him filling it. My eyes trailed over him taking in his casual clothes. He's dressed in a pair of dark jeans with black boots. His torso was covered by a tight black T-shirt and a leather jacket. The jacket and his hair were wet from the rain.

"I'll get you a towel," I muttered, hurrying out of the kitchen.

Minutes later, after composing myself, I joined him in the kitchen. Slade leaned against the counter staring out the window. Walking towards him, I held out the towel.

"Thanks," he muttered, taking the towel from me starting to dry his hair.

The kettle switched off breaking the silence. "Would you like some coffee?"

Slade nodded giving me a small smile. A few minutes later both of us sat at the table opposite each other. I gripped the cup tighter between my hands staring down at the light brown liquid. Awkward silence settled between us. I could feel him watching me. My mind was racing with reasons for him being here. He's here for a reason, right?

"Alexi." Here it comes. "I'm here to talk to you about something."

I glanced up at him. Our eyes locked pulling a shocked gasp from me. Something strange was happening. Everything around me seemed to fade. I could only see him. What happened next made my cheeks heat in embarrassment. A wave of heat flashed through me making wetness pull between my legs. I could feel my panties dampening and my stomach tightening in need. Clearing his throat, Slade broke eye contact first. Once his eyes dropped I broke free from whatever spell I was under.

"W-what do you need?" My voice sounded huskier than normal. Heat still filled my cheeks. I took a hastily sip from my coffee.

Slade stood with a shake of his head. Turning his back on me he ran a hand through his hair muttering something under his breath. Five seconds later he turned to face me again.

"I heard that you're looking for a job. Betty, from the supermarket, mentioned it earlier today and I was wondering if you've found something yet?"

I blinked. He came all this way in the rain to ask me if I'm still looking for a job? I should be thankful for that, I guess, but I'm still debating on staying in this town. After the attack my radar has been going mad. This isn't a normal town and sure my grandmother called this her home, this town just wasn't for me. I couldn't live with all these looks and whispers.

"I know you're only planning on staying here until your grandmother's stuff is sorted. You'll have enough time to pack up and all," Slade said. He gestured around with a hand opening his mouth to continue.

"What kind of job?" I heard myself asking.

"My brother and I need some help in the office. Our secretary had an emergency and the files and papers are a mess. We could use some help right now."

I bit my lip. Taking another sip of my now cold coffee. I glanced at him again.

"I only need to sort the files and papers?" He nodded. "How long will I have to stay at the office?"

Slade took a seat at the table again. Glancing down at the cup he pushed it aside. My eyes followed the movement of his tongue as he licked his bottom lip. Clearing his throat he made my eyes snap up to his.

"You'll only have to come in three days a week. Monday, Wednesday and Friday from eight to five. Of course you will be paid for your services."

"I have no experience-"

"That doesn't matter," he shook his head, "I'm sure you'll learn fast. We'll show you how it works and from there on if you have any problem you can ask for help."

"For how long?" I asked softly, getting up I collected the cups. "You said your secretary had an emergency. Once I'm finished sorting out this stuff I'd like to head home." Wherever that is..

"Of course," he stood, "all I ask is that you give us a week warning before leaving."

I could do that. I'm sure a week will give me enough time to plan everything through. I need to find a new place to stay either way. Turning around I smiled up at him.

"When can I start?"
