Splashpaw had been so worried about seeing Sandpaw at the gathering, he hadn't really been paying attention in the last three sunrises. He felt his paws moving, and looked up to see the cats outside on the beach, clustered together.
"We should go." Oceanwater announced.
The cats got to their paws and padded after Currentstar. Splashpaw dreaded going atop Seaclan's flat stone, but he knew he had to. Mountainclan was a little late, but when all cats of the clans were there, Redstar bristled and launched into the gathering.
"Attacking our camp? Where helpless elders and kits could have died? Have you no clan honor? Fastwind almost joined Starclan!" The Mountainclan and Darkclan cats gasped.
"You cannot blame us for what we've done. We had seen Redstar over the border, skulking in a bush on our territory. He launched one of our apprentices, and almost killed him. The other warriors came to his aid, and we were able to drive him off. We decided to repay his invasion with one of our own, and show we won't let any cat get away with trying to kill innocent cats." Currentstar growled.
The other clans had fell silent, not really wanting to argue with such a strong accusation. Still, Meadowclan didn't deny it.
"Yes, I charged the apprentice. That is because...well...we were hungry. We couldn't find prey. We smelled rabbit blood and Seaclan scent. Stealing our prey in this perilous time? We couldn't handle that. I sorted things out and left scars on those warriors they would remember." He replied icily.
He felt his shoulder tingle a bit. Letting out a low hiss, he whirled around. To his surprise, Sandpaw was pressing her sharp claws into his shoulders, where they were before. Almost letting out a yelp, he crouched low, surprised.
"What are you doing?! There's a truce!" He hissed. The other cats were too mesmerized in the leaders confronting eachother. They didn't even notice Sandpaw and Splashpaw.
She nodded. "I know. Just trying to remind you that I'm still here. How's it been with you?" She asked.
"Ever since the battle, my clan has been on edge. If your leader didn't stray over the border, we wouldn't meet, and I could sit and listen peacefully to the leaders chat kindly." Splashpaw pointed out.
"Yeah, yeah. So, since this gathering is about to end, when can I see you again?" She asked, grinning.
"We're from different clans! The next time you see me will be the next gathering! Stop pestering me!" He exclaimed quietly.
"I'm not pestering," her voice turned softer, not wanting to hear. "I'm pointing out the facts. If I see you on a patrol or something, we could talk for a bit. I'll look out for you, Splashpaw."
She padded away, following her bristling clan. Splashpaw did the same, watching his mother carefully, but thinking about Sandpaw. He didn't want to see her on the border. She was kind of a psycho. His wounds still hurt. Also, she was proud of herself all the time. The warrior code didn't have to be followed in her opinion. He didn't ever want to see her again.
Maybe I'm just overreacting.
Sandpaw might be evil and a psycho, but she still was proof of one thing. If he could ignore her, he would be choosing the warrior code over breaking it. He knew that was exactly what he would do.
