"Splashpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code with your life?"
"I do."
"Very well. Starclan, I ask you to look down on this young apprentice. He has trained hard to learn your code, and with that, I commend him a warrior in turn. Splashpaw, from this day forward, you will be known as Splashpelt. We honor you for your bravery and strength. I still remember what you've done for us against Meadowclan." Currentstar let out a bout of coughing from his area. Recently, he had a horrible cold, and could not give Crystalclear and Splashpelt their ceremony. Oceanwater had helped and done it instead, but it left the young warriors feeling sad about their leader.
A scritching noise rang in Splashpelt's ears. Ignoring it, he padded over to Currentstar and nosed his fur.
"Hey, Currentstar. Did you hear? My name is Splashpelt now. I have been waiting for a really long time. Navypaw and Aquapaw will join us soon. Crystalpaw was named Crystalclear. Don't you like those names?" He asked his leader.
Coughing, he tried to speak. "Yes, young warrior, they are...wonderful. Good...job." He dipped his head in respect.
Feeling a good senstation crawl over his skin from his leader's praise, he padded over to tell Crystalclear.
"Where is she?" He murmured, not finding her in the warrior's den. Maybe she forgot she's sleeping here now, or wanted to say goodbye to her denmates, he thought.
He poked his head into the apprentice's den, but only saw Navypaw and Aquapaw. He wondered where she would be.
As he passed by the gateway in his searches for his kithood friend, he heard the scritching noise, louder than before. In the water? Was something in the water?
He peered into the watery depths, careful not to let it take him in. It was too blurry to see anything. Taking a deep breath, he jumped into the swirling currents. To his doom.
The water was cold, pressing in on his fur. He wasn't used to it over the leafbare he had away from it. His leader was right. It was cold. He saw, to his surprise, a dark shape churning at the water.
"Crystalclear!" He screamed, letting out a mouthful of bubbles. Grasping the tail firmly in his jaws, he tried to pull her down, but she struggled to stay back up. Finally, she went limp, and he was able to drag her back into the camp. The clan was staring at him in astonishment.
Finfish turned her over on her belly to get rid of the water in her mouth. To everyone's surprise, Crystalclear was carrying herbs.
"But...it can't be. These herbs...they'll help Currentstar." Finfish breathed, her whiskers quivering slightly.
Finfish worked silently, gently tapping Crystalclear until she let out streams of saltwater. Crystalclear took a deep breath, and her eyes fluttered open. She sat up, looking about the staring cats.
"How did you get those herbs? Why did you leave? Was the water frozen?" Finfish questioned.
"It all started when Currentstar began to cough." She mewed.
