Splashpelt mindlessly checked for the kits again. He was about to leave when he heard a whisper to hush. A whisper of an unconcerned mother.

He checked the bush. Sure enough, Sandfang was curled around the helpless creatures. She was giving them one last feed, he supposed.

"Wait, if they need milk, how can I feed them?" He asked. She sighed.

"They won't. They're two moons old. They can manage." She mewed. He shook his head. That was such an early age for fresh kill. Two moons old, and eating out of the prey pile.

"Did you name them?" He asked quietly.

"No," She mewed to his astonishment. "Why would I? I couldn't think of any good names, anyway."

He sighed and examined the kits. One was black as night, with puffy fur. The other was sandy peach, like it's mother. The last was light blue. He was a mirror image of Splashpelt, except for his yellow eyes and the dark grey band around his middle. All three were fast asleep, wriggling and squirming, as if uncomfortable.

"This will be Ashkit," He nuzzled the black tom. Then, he turned to the sandy peach kit. "This will be Sandkit."

She wrinkled her muzzle. "After me? Why? That's a Meadowclan name, isn't it?"

"No. It's for the beach, in their eyes. However, I know why I really named it." He replied, eyes clouding with sadness. Not for leaving her. He never loved her. But for her letting this happen. Making him do this. Changing his life without his permission.

"What about this one?" She nudged the blue tom. He coughed in response, weakly shivering. Splashpelt shuddered. This kit might not even survive the night.

"You can name him." He replied instead, deciding not to share his fears.

"What? Really? But...I'm not so good with names...," He nodded. She sighed. "How about Wetkit?" She mewed finally.

He nodded. Wetkit would be a good Seaclan name. "That'll fit in with the clan well." He agreed. She gave him a surprised look.

"I named him after his cough."
