Splashpelt padded outside, inhaling the morning air. For a while, he wanted to lay in the sand and bask in the sun. However, his paws carried him to the edge of the water. The kits had to be fed. He crouched, waiting for a fish to stir the water. The morning breeze flew by his pelt, calling him into the sands. An angelfish swam by, it's tail swishing.

Splashpelt hooked it up with a claw, swinging it over his shoulder. He killed it as it struggled in the sand with a quick nip. Shaking the sand off of the small fish, he brought it back to the camp, searching for the kits.

Sandkit bounded past some of the warriors to meet him. She saw the angelfish in dismay. "That's not enough to feed even one of us!" She squealed. He sighed. These kits were more picky by the day. They had just realized he would go out any time to get them fresh kill. Now, he was out more than once a day hunting for them or finding feathers on the beach.

"You ate earlier. That cat fish took me ages to find. Your so small! You could hardly even finish half of it!" he mewed.

She let out a low squeak. "That's not fair! I'm going to be hungry still after I eat that thing!"

"That reminds me. The others didn't eat as much as you did this morning. Maybe I should split it up. Okay, you'll have the tail and the belly. The others will have the rest." He sliced the fish up, giving Sandkit her share.

"That's not fair either! They get more than me! A lot more than me!" She wailed. He sighed.

"There are more of them than there are of you. Besides, they're probably starving." He carried the rest of the fish to the nursery, dropping it at the paws of the little kits. Ashkit took a small bite without comment, but Stonekit was talking about a minnow he saw as he chewed, and how it was much smaller than this fish.

He was only half listening as he watched the clan go by busily. They had accepted the three kits reluctantly. Now, they hardly commented about them at all. Crystalshine didn't snipe about how they could be Meadowclan or that Splashpelt could cause a war by bringing them here. She hardly sniped about anything at all these days. She seemed quieter.

Currentstar was getting very old. He had another hacking cough, and Finfish's herbs only dulled it a little. Splashpelt didn't even know how many lives his leader had left. Still, he trusted Oceanwater with his life to be a great leader. Maybe Starclan wanted Currentstar. After all, the old cat had brought the clan together and shaped it with his own paws. He had accomplished a lot in his time.

He also feared for his mother. She was old, too. She showed it visibly, and didn't try to hide it. She had a graying muzzle, and rarely left the camp.

Splashpelt wouldn't let Starclan take his mother. He would do whatever it took to stop them.
