Since you had been on the island you hadn't made too many friends. Sawyer was the closest thing you had to a friend, however he was far more like a brother in the sense that he would protect you but disliked your company whilst you looked up to him as a role model even though you did consider it rather dubious in itself. He was a rough man, not that friendly, but he had aspects you wished you could imitate. You wished you could be stronger and be able to stand up for yourself, but you certainly didn't want to do it in the dick-ish way he did.

It had become almost as though you were a lost puppy following after him and attempting to impress him.

"Come on kid, leave me be," he grunted not looking up from his book.

You were sat next to him, desperately seeking his approval. It was lonely on the island and you needed someone, even if that someone was reluctant to be there for you.

"Please Sawyer, I just... I just want you to teach me a little," you smiled softly.

He looked up from his page, to look you in the eye. "What do you want me to teach you? I can't teach you anything."

You gave him an encouraging and hopeful smile, hoping that would assist your desire to get you what you want.

"I want to be more like you," you said softly.

"Why'd you want to be like me, kid?" He asked.

It was an important question. You never thought you would want to be like someone like him, but you were trapped on an island and only those with a strong mind would survive. Sawyer had one of the strongest minds of anyone you knew.

"I want to be like you. No one makes fun of you. Everyone treats me like a little kid, I don't want to be a burden on everyone, which is exactly how they see me," you stated.

Sawyer put his book down on the sand, giving you an almost pained expression.

"You don't want to be feared, kid. No one makes fun of me because they don't see me as worth even taunting, I am nothing to them. You don't want that. They care for you and that's why they want to protect you. You shouldn't desire for them to frown upon you. I care about you; I will protect you from anyone that causes you an issue, but you shouldn't want them to see you like they see me," he said softly. "Never wish to be seen like me."

You couldn't help the frown crawl onto your face.

"I'm sorry Sawyer."

"It's alright kiddo, it's alright. Although you shouldn't want to be like me, I can help you learn to fight for yourself though," he smiled in a brotherly way.

"Thank you."
