Just a Little Bit of Love, Barrels, and Horses

Chapter 2

"Hey watch where you're going," the guy said clearly annoyed. I just stand there to stunned to speak. "Aww cat got your tongue," he taunts me. Looking at him carefully he's got dark brown hair darker than mine and brown eyes. He looks about 5'11. I gotta admit he's hot. But he has player written all over him. He looks about 15.

"Dude don't mess with her! She is 3 time state roping champion with Ellie Reierson, 2-time state pole bending champion, AND 4-time barrel racing champion," says a guy with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. He is cute but not my type.

"You're McKenna O'Brien?" He asked clearly surprised. For a second there I thought he was gonna say something nice but he opens up his fat mouth and says. "So I'm guessing you bought your horses for 10,000 dollars a piece to be that good?" I see the guy with the blonde hair just shake his head.

"Actually I train my horses myself," I said trying to be as polite as possible.

"Oh really? Well all I know is that you are gonna need a fast horse to keep up with me and my jake here," he said. Oh so the blondes name is jake. As in jake everett? Which means that this is Alec Hall?!

"And you must be Alec Hall? No awards no cowboy of the year award? At least that is what everybody has been saying. But they have been clearly mistaken," I said with a hint of a snicker.

"What how?" He asked.

"Because clearly you have the arrogant ass award in the bag," I say laughing and walk away leaving him stunned and speechless.

"Where were you? Roping starts in 5 minutes and we still have to get our horses warmed up!" Ellie says panicking.

"Ellie relax. We are last anyways so we will be fine. Where are Abby and Maysa?" I ask curious.

"Abby went to warm up and Maysa went to sit in the stands," Ellie stated.

"Oh okay. We better get going then," I state and she just nods her head in agreement. I slip the bridle on Magic and put my foot in the stirrup and swing myself over. I wait for Ellie to get on and we head over to the metal cow that we practice on. Ellie is the header and I'm the heeler. After we each made it 10 times we head to the arena and work on our sliding stops. After we got done with that. We heard a shrill whistle. Bull riders.

"Damn you ladies are fine. I'm Dawson and this is Aiden."They were cute. Aiden had shoulder length black hair and bright blue eyes and Dawson had short brown hair and blue eyes. "We were

just wondering if you guys could go grab a drink with us after the rodeo?" Aiden asked. I scoffed. Do they have any idea how old we were. Maysa always to me, Abby, and Ellie to watch out because we do look older than we are.

"No," Ellie and I answer in sync.

"And why not?" Dawson asks clearly disappointed.

"Because we are 13," I said. Then they practically ran away. I take my hat off and put it back on and laugh. "Gets them every time," I laugh.

"Up next Alec Hall and Jake Everett. On deck 3-time state champs Ellie Reierson and McKenna O'Brien!" The announcer announced. And with that we went to the indoor arena. Alec and Jake had a solid run with a 13.2. We've beat that before.

"Ellie are you ready?" I ask.

"Yep. You?" She asked

"Of course." I say. The timer buzzes the calf is released and our horses take off. Magic catches up right away and so does Aprohdite. Ellie doesn't hesitate to throw her rope the rope goes around the calfs horns and as soon as she knows they are secure she pulls to tighten them. I don't hesitate to throw my rope either. It goes right around the calfs feet and we both pull. I look up at the timer. 12. 3. A personal best! We get our ropes off the calfs and collect the 6,500 dollars we won. I had a big smile on my face and went to untack magic and saddle up Dakotah when I feel that someone's watching me. I look over at a grinning jake and a scowling Alec.
