My guard duty was a morning patrol, leaving my afternoon and evening free. I spent it with Elise, this time, since she was the only trainee I really knew who shared my off-shift hours, today.

She and I walked around the outskirts of the camp, which are marked with a chain link fence. There are a few feet of green grass on the other side of the fence, but beyond that grass is nothing but rocky surfaces, concrete slabs, abandoned factories, and broken up parking lots.

More recruits arrived, today. Some are going to be trained as soldiers while others--those with imperfections that make them unfit soldiers--will be transported to Sanctum. As our numbers grow, there are talks about expanding the base to include some of the nearby factories. They'll have to be cleaned out, but there shouldn't be anything dangerous, there. All of Madagascar's threatening animals either died or migrated within the last five years.

If we do expand, hopefully I can find a bunk away from Elise. I'll have to ask. Though, with any luck, I'll be heading for Sanctum as soon as I'm back from the mission.
