Elijah and Rayna stood in Esther's study, looking like dog's scolded for eating something they shouldn't have.
"No violence. That was all I asked. Rebekah and Kol disgraced our family tonight." Esther sighed.
"It won't happen again, mother. I'll deal with them." Elijah told her.
Esther sighed again with a small smile. "Thank you, Elijah. I wish the others were more like you."
Rayna tried her very best not to burst out in sarcastic laughter at Esther's words.
Finn entered just as Elijah left. Rayna turned to do the same.
"No, you stay here." Finn instructed, closing the doors.
Rayna sighed deeply, turning back around to face Esther again.
"Are we alright to speak freely?" Finn asked his mother.
"Yes. The sage still burns." Esther replied.
Finn turned to the Heretic.
"Why were you listening to our conversation earlier?" He asked.
"Well that should be simple to work out. I don't trust you. In fact, the only ones I do trust are Elijah and Niklaus. Trust Niklaus to screw things up for everyone somehow and trust Elijah to keep his word." Rayna replied.
"Niklaus is your sire, is he not?" Esther asked.
Rayna simply nodded.
"Do you not have a natural trust instinct for him, then? It would only make sense, and yet, you seem so sure of your negative words toward him."
"I used to trust Niklaus with my life. Then he disappointed me." Esther nodded, knowingly as she wrote on a piece of paper.
Rayna looked over to see that she was writing her children's names.
"And why Elijah?" Esther asked.
Rayna breathed a humourless chuckle.
"I loved him. Perhaps a part of me still does. After tonight, I have no clue."
"I saw you both dancing tonight. You both looked perfect for each other." Esther gave the Heretic a small smile.
"You aren't having second thoughts, are you?" Finn asked his mother.
"Of course not. It's just Elijah. He's so moral." She replied.
"You're doing the right thing, mother." He reassured her.
"Right thing for who?" Rayna scoffed. "For yourselves? For nature? Esther, they're your children. They don't deserve this. Especially not from you."
"It is what needs to be done, Rayna. They cannot be allowed to live any longer." Esther told her before turning back to her oldest son. "You understand what this means, don't you? This spell I'm casting tonight will bind you all together as one."
"I understand. When it is time, I will be ready to die." Finn nodded.
"Then we must complete the link." Esther replied, turning to her table.
Finn moved towards her and offered her his hand.
She used the knife she had previously used on Elena and sliced his palm open, allowing the blood to spill onto the paper below.
"I can't let you do this." Rayna growled and went to run towards them, but Esther dropped the knife and waved her hand, throwing the Heretic into the corner on the other side of the room, snapping her neck instantly.
"Phasmatos inta grum vin callus... Amalon callagius accodam... Cosom naben dox... Callagius amalon... Gaeda callagius ceremum... Phamato descendium vinum... Phasmatos inta grum vin callus... Cosom naben dox..." She chanted the spell over and over, Finn watching as the blood moved across the paper, connecting the names of he, his brothers and his sister like the branches of a tree.
Esther took a short but sharp breath.
"The link is complete. You are one." She said as the paper burst into flames.
