Elena was writing in her journal in her room when the door knocked.
She jogged down the stairs and opened the door to reveal Elijah, who gave her a small smile.
"Elena." He greeted.
"Elijah." She nodded.
"I don't mean to intrude. I was hoping you would accompany me. I want to show you something." He said.
"Of course. Come in whilst I get my shoes and a jacket." She smiled.
He too, smiled in return and stepped inside.
Once ready, the pair left in Elijah's car.

They arrived in a park in the centre of town and walked around it's outskirts as they spoke.
"Forgot how much I missed this land." Elijah sighed reminiscently.
"I can't even imagine what it must have been like a thousand years ago." Elena smiled.
"You know, your school was built over an Indian village. Where I saw my first Werewolf. The town square was where the natives would gather to worship. Matter of fact, near that, there was a field where wild horses used to graze." Elijah told her.
"That's incredible." Elena sighed.
The Original motioned for her to follow him.
"Come."
"Do you know this place too?" She asked.
"I do." Elijah replied. "Below us is a cavern I used to play in as a boy. It connects to a system of tunnels that stretch across the entire area. Perhaps it's nature's way of providing us with shelter against the savagery of the full moon. My mother said there must be a balance." Elena began to get wary, suspecting he knew that she had untruthful.
"I admire you, Elena." The Original continued. "You remind me of qualities I valued long before my mother turned us. It's not in your nature to be deceitful and yet when I asked you about your meeting with my mother the other night, you lied to my face."
"That's not true. I told you that all your mother wanted was a new start." Elena frowned.
"I can hear your heartbeat. It jumps when you are being dishonest with me. You lied to me at the ball; you're lying to me now. Tell me the truth." Elena sighed heavily, knowing she'd been caught.
"I never wanted this to happen." She said, quietly.
"What, Elena?" Elijah pressed.
"We were told that whatever was going to be in that coffin was going to kill Klaus. When we found out it was your mother, we didn't know what to think." Elena's feet shuffled uncomfortably.
"Since her return she says she only wants this family whole again." Elijah raised an eyebrow.
"When she asked to see me, I- I thought that maybe she could help. That she would find a way to kill Klaus. It's not just Klaus that she wants to kill."
"She wants to kill us all, doesn't she? She wants to undo the evil she created." Elijah sighed deeply. "Rayna told me this, but I didn't want to believe her."
"I'm so sorry, Elijah. I wish there were something I could do to help." Elena told him, her eyes filled with guilt.
Elijah glanced at her.
"You know one thing I've learned in my time on this Earth; be careful what you wish for." Elijah threw his foot through the floor, creating a large hole in the lawn. He grabbed Elena and jumped down into the hole with her and then left her there.

Rayna was back at the Salvatore Boarding house, showering and getting changed.
As she came downstairs, she heard Damon on the phone with someone.
"I haven't seen Elena since this morning." The voice on the phone said.
"Well she's not answering her phone." Damon replied.
"Well I'm surprised you had time to call, what with all this Original sex you've been having."
Rayna could hear the smirk dripping off the lips of its owner.
"Ugh... She told you?" Damon scoffed.
"Oh, she told me." The voice replied.
"Oh so you're who Rebekah came home from this morning." Rayna sighed with realisation, causing Damon to swing around to face her. "Wow, Damon. Real classy of you." She gave a sarcastic slow clap.
"Yeah, thanks Rayna. Well Ric, did she tell you that she's having an attack of conscience about this whole Original murder thing?" Damon asked.
"Who's Ric?" Rayna mouthed, earning herself a wave off from the older Salvatore.
"Hey, listen. I'm not gunna judge her for having a conscience. And is that your ancient Vampy love interest from way back when who just so happens to be best buddies with Klaus?" Ric asked.
"That would be her." Damon sighed.
"Love interest?" Rayna turned her nose up.
"Look, Ric. You don't have to judge her. Just tie her up, lock her in a room 'til this is all over." Damon shrugged.
"Wait, are we still talking about Rebekah or Klaus' buddy now?" Ric asked.
"Goodbye Ric." Damon replied in sarcastic monotone as he hung up the phone.
"So Elena's missing?" Rayna asked, flopping down on the couch.
"Yeah... Any idea where she might've gone?" Damon asked, pouring himself a Bourbon.
"A little birdy told me that Elijah was going to see her this morning. And isn't it a little early to be drinking?" Rayna raised an eyebrow.
"Do you know how stressful it is babysitting a Doppelganger twenty four, seven?" Damon asked in a 'duh' tone.
Rayna sighed a chuckle.
