The next morning, Rayna woke up on the couch in the Salvatore house.
She recalled the previous night and how Damon and Stefan were debating what had – or was likely to have – happened in the Mikaelson house after the three of them had left.
"Good morning, sunshine." Damon came in, smiling happily and shirtless.
"You know, I do believe that shirts were invented for a reason." Rayna sighed, sitting up.
"They were invented with the option to take them off. And so, I did." The older Salvatore winked at her with his signature look of sarcasm and smugness.
Rayna rolled her eyes as he passed her a blood bag.
"So what are your plans for today?" Rayna asked after swallowing some of the thick, red liquid.
"Well, our plan is to go to the Gilbert house. Elena has some information for us." Damon replied.
"Why exactly do I have to come with you? You know I'll only want to rip her head off for simply looking like Katherine." Rayna raised her eyebrow.
Damon chuckled as he swallowed some blood.
"That's exactly why you're coming with us. You need to know that she's nothing like the psycho-bitch." He said.Rayna, Stefan and Damon waited for the door to be answered at the Gilbert residence.
As soon as it opened, it revealed Elena.
Rayna fought all of her instincts to pounce at the girl and rip her throat out.
"Hey, you must be Rayna. I'm E-"
"Elena. Yes, I know who you are. Everyone I've met in this town seems utterly obsessed with you." Rayna crossed her arms.
"Rayna, be nice." Damon gave a warning tone to the Heretic.
Rayna ignored him and carried on.
"Unfortunately, I've had a bad history with your Doppelganger. So I shan't be joining them in their obsessions." Rayna gave Elena a bittersweet smile.
The Salvatore brothers entered the house as Elena opened the door a little wider.
Rayna cleared her throat, causing Elena to look up.
"Oh... Um..." She hesitated, looking to the brothers.
"She won't bite. Let her in." Stefan told her.
The Doppelganger turned back to Rayna and nodded.
"Come in." She said.Rayna gave a small smirk as she walked over the threshold.
The four of them stood in the kitchen, Elena and Rayna drinking a cup of coffee each.
"It was their mother Esther who was sealed in that coffin." The Doppelganger said.
"As in the Original Witch?" Stefan confirmed.
Elena nodded.
"What? How is she even alive? Thought her Hybrid freak show of a son ripped her heart out a thousand years ago." Damon sneered.
"That's what he said..." Rayna raised an eyebrow.
"I'm guessing she has a couple connections in the witching community. Elijah said that she wants to live in peace with her family, including Klaus." Elena shrugged.
Stefan clearly grew more confused as the rest of them spoke on.
"She was supposed to be the weapon to help us kill Klaus." He thought out loud.
"Well not anymore. At least not according to Elijah." Elena replied.
Stefan sighed heavily. "That coffin was the only thing stopping Klaus from tearing us to shreds."
Rayna gave a humourless chuckle.
"I may not particularly like you boys right now, but I'll be damned if I let him do that. Should nothing else work, I have a history that says his feelings for me would get in the way of his plans to destroy you all."
"Klaus used to like you?" Damon asked.
"Oh, Damon... Klaus used to love me." Rayna smirked. "He would never hurt me, and so, he would never hurt you."
"It probably won't come to that. Elijah promised me that his family wouldn't hurt any of us." Elena said as the doorbell rang. "I believe him."Her company followed Elena to the door, just in case.
She opened it to see the porch empty, she went to turn back with a confused expression, but then she noticed an envelope reading 'Elena Gilbert' in stunning cursive on her doormat.
She picked it up and turned to the Vampires who waited with equally confused expressions.
"What is it?" Damon asked.
Elena opened the envelope and removed a card.
"It's an invitation." She replied before reading the card out loud.
"'Please join the Mikaelson family, this evening at seven o'clock for dancing, cocktails and celebrations.'"
"Who the Hell are the Mikaelsons?" Stefan asked.
"You don't even know the last name of your enemies. The Mikaelsons are the Original family, you silly boy." Rayna laughed.
"It's not bad enough they're moving into town, now they want a housewarming gift?" Damon scoffed.
"Wait, there's a note on the back." Elena hushed the brothers.
"Well?" Rayna beckoned her to read it.
"Elena, I think it's time we finally met. Esther."
The four of them looked between each other, nervously.
