Chapter 45.
Kayla's POV:
Draco was looking at me intently, so, to avoid his gaze, I looked at the ring he had given me. I rubbed the gem in the middle. It was a large ring and it was very masculine. I loved it, it was my favourite thing I owned.
Although, technically, I didn't own it since it was Draco's, but I still liked to think of it as my own. Draco made my heart beat faster, he made it hard to breathe, and that was only me thinking of him. When we were together I had butterflies fluttering in my stomach. He made me feel safe, he made me feel no way anyone else could. I was surprised when he gave me the ring. I didn't know what I was expecting, I just know it wasn't that.
"Kayla?" Draco snapped his fingers, bringing me out of my trance.
"Huh?" I said, focusing my attention on him.
"Were you listening?" he asked.
"Sorry, I was daydreaming," I answered.
"What about?" he inquired.
"You." I smiled, pecking his lips.
"Really, what exactly about me? Was it how amazing I am and how I made you fall in love with my handsome good looks?" he joked.
"Something along those lines," I answered, still slightly stuck in my thoughts.
"Do you want to go for a walk somewhere?" Draco asked.
"Sure." I smiled and took his hand.
We got up and walked outside into the fresh cold air, my arms wrapped around Draco's arm. I snuggled the side of my head into his shoulder. We walked around the Black Lake a few times before we heard a horrible voice behind us.
"Mr Malfoy and Miss Hex, why are you disobeying the rules?" Umbridge snarled.
"Sorry, Professor, but we are on a date. I can always owl my father and you can see what he says," Draco said.
Was Draco blackmailing Professor Umbridge? It was really sweet and all, but what if he got a detention for it? He would have to use one of those horrible quills that carve what you write into your skin. Umbridge looked a bit taken aback, but she was afraid of Lucius, just like many wizards, and left us to do whatever the hell we wanted.
"Draco, why is she so afraid of your father?" I asked.
"I don't know. My father just told me if she ever bothered me, bring up him and she will leave me alone," Draco explained.
"Okay then."
He kissed my cheek. The lake was frozen over, and, being smart people, we decided to walk across it. I slipped quite a few times, but Draco either caught me or helped me up if he didn't react fast enough. Finally, we got to the other side and walked up to the castle.
"Hey Draco, can we got ice skating in like an hour?" I asked.
"Of course, Kitten."
"Kitten?" I asked, surprised.
It was a cute nickname. And it was cute that he gave me a nickname. I don't know why, but it seemed weird of him not to just call me Kayla.
"Yes, it is your new nickname," Draco said.
"But it's longer than my actual name, aren't nicknames supposed to be shorter than your actual name?" I asked.
"You call me Dragon Boy sometimes." he mentioned.
"Right, nevermind." I said.
"Alright, Kitten here we are, let's go to the Great Hall to get some food." He pulled me along to the great hall.
We sat down and immediately Evie and Ginny came rushing over to me.
I did quite like the nickname.
