They made their way to the table still holding their hands tightly together. Maritza was walking next to her best friend colliding with every step they made.
The cafeteria was almost empty. Most of the inmates were on their way to began their morning shifts. Maritza let out a sigh of relief when her hazel eyes met a pair of blue ones. McCullough had the same shift as Humps. She gave mac a weak smile as she sat down to eat with the other Latinas. They both sat next to each other with Gloria, Daya and Blanca sitting opposite of them.
"I swear to god these 2 are gonna be a beautiful family someday. I'm sorry I just had to say it. Just be together already!"
Daya says with her head tilted to the side in admiration of how the 2 looked so good together followed with a whiny voice.
"why are we always the subject around here?"
Flaca says letting out a low scoff.
From the minute they walked into the cafeteria Humps 2.0 didn't stop looking at them. Flaca noticed this and McCullough noticed it too. A few minutes after the Latinas were having their breakfast, Humps walked behind the 2 best friends and gave maritza a light touch on her back that sent shivers down her spine.
"nice back, you better watch it"
He whispers for her to hear only, but she wasn't the only one that heard it. Flaca did too. Her body got tense, eyes were full of anger, legs impatiently bouncing up and down. Her hands were already in a fist ready to punch the shit out of him. Maritza noticed how tense the tall girl beside her had gotten and why. She didn't want her girl to get into any trouble, especially because of her. She grabbed the taller girl's hand which were in the form of a fist and held tight on to them and looked her in the eyes.
"don't you fucking dare"
Maritza calmly says scared that she's gonna do something.
Flaca's hands relax at the touch of maritza's.
"but..."
Flaca starts off about to try and reason with Maritza why she should just punch the shit out of him but is cut off by the other guard.
"Gonzales, come here for a minute please? you too Ramos."
McCullough calls out to them with a stern voice to catch their attention.
Maritza lets out a deep breath and mouths "thank you" to the blue eyed guard, who by now had caught up with what was going on. Flaca rolls her eyes as they both get up at the same time and walk towards the blonde guard.
"It's him isn't it? you said that it wasn't an inmate? Humps?"
She says eyeing the other guard, while getting kinda angry.
"yeah it's him, I have some history with his brother, and he's here to finish what his brother started I guess"
Maritza says not looking at the guard or at the tall Latina that was standing right by her side but instead looking at the ground.
"you're scared of that? Flaca please tell me you're not!"
The blonde guard says with a surprised expression taking over her face.
"I'm not but she..."
Flaca starts off before Maritza cuts her off mid-sentence
"you're not doing anything, I can't risk losing you again"
She says now looking right into her eyes.
"you won't baby. I promise"
Flaca says with a whiny voice.
"Don't promise me things you have no control of, please"
The small girl tells her with a weak smile on her face.
"ok hey no one is losing no one ok? Flaca, honey that man is terrified of you. So just be even more protective of her. Especially around him."
McCullough says with a warm smile on her face.
"It won't work he already told me to watch her back, he's planning something."
Maritza says turning her gaze towards the guard now.
"he's not going to try anything on Flaca for sure, we were talking about you this morning and he said. and I quote 'that girl, the tall one? teardrops. She scary man she be towering on me and her eyes? I don't know they scare the shit out of me.' So I think Flaca's good and you got her, you don't need to worry."
The guard says giving a glance to both the Latinas and smiling.
"and I'm gonna talk to Caputo. Tell him to watch how he acts around you."
McCullough says her eyes moving to the other guard who was standing still looking at both of them from behind.
"no, no please don't tell anyone."
Maritza says now looking at the guard with with her eyes starting to get watery.
"and let him fuck with you like that? fuck no Mari. I won't tell Caputo that it's you. I'll just tell him to check how he's doing his job. And you Flaca, you better bring that possessive bitch out of you."
McCullough tells Flaca while crossing her arms.
"I'll see what I can do"
She says with a shy smile looking at the ground.
"be a bitch ok? no one can touch or even look at your girl."
She says still looking at Flaca. She gives a quick glance to Maritza and sees her turning bright red and biting her lower lip.
"she's not exactly MY girl, but yeah I get your point"
She says fidgeting with her fingers and turning red too.
"oh please she's totally yours, you're just too fucking oblivious, both of you. now off you go, inmates"
She says playfully while winking at them.
