"good luck mami"

Maritza whispers from the bunk as she saw Flaca tying her hair into a messy bun

"did I wake you?"

Flaca asks as she got nearer

"nah, you ok?"

"nervous"

Flaca says knowing that the day she had been dreading but waiting for at the same time, was finally here, she crouches in front of Maritza's bunk so that she's eye level with the girl

"I'm not talking 'bout that"

Maritza says taking Flaca's hand which was resting on the bunk in her own and gingerly runs her thumb up and down.

"you know what I was thinking to myself just now?"

Flaca says as she squeezes Maritza's hand

"what?"

Maritza says giving her a small smile when she saw that Flaca was smiling too

"nothing's gonna change. It don't matter if I cry or if I laugh, it happened and I can't change that in anyway. What I can do though, is move. Just keep moving forward, and I don't mean forget her cause that ain't gonna happen for sure, but just. keep moving. Does that make me heartless?"

Flaca says with a raspy voice, it was hard for her. But after a lot of self talking she came to that conclusion

"no baby, that makes you strong, and you're right. She'll always be by your side, every step you make she'll be there watching over you and your mother."

Maritza says before pulling her closer and leaving a long peck on her forehead

"also I have to tell you something"

Maritza says with a wide smile on her face

"tell me"

"right now? but you have training"

Maritza says giving  Flaca a pouty lip

"I have 30 mins 'fore I start, you need more than that?"

Flaca says sitting Indian style when her girlfriend shakes her head from side to side.

"A'aight, so you know how I've never been in love right?"

"yeah"

"so I have no idea what it feels like to be in love with someone"

Maritza grins as she sits up so she's facing her girlfriend who was sitting on the floor, Flaca nods

"so I talked to Gloria, a few days ago. cause I was like what if I'm in love with you and I don't even know it? you know? so I asked her what it feels like to be in love with someone"

Maritza continued as she looked at her dangling legs.

"and she said that you feel a huge heartache and that it feels like you've just been hit by a truck but everything's gonna be ok cause you're in love. is that true? did it feel like that for you?"
