3rd PERSON POV:

Mystic Grill

"I yelled at my mom last night." Matt started as he poured salt in a cup. "You know, I feel like the parent and the screwed-up kid."

"Well maybe she needed to hear it." Caroline suggested.

"Yeah, but just - - I worry that if I push too hard, then she'll take off again. Cause that's her M.O. Just like Vicki, who I haven't heard from since she left." Matt admitted.

"Well, you can't control your mom, Matt, any more than you can control your sister."

"I wish that she would just try a little. You know? If she would just try to try, that'd be okay."

"Maybe she'll surprise you." The blonde female suggested. "People have a tendency to do that." Matt smiled.

Caroline smiled. "I should go. I have to pick up Ronnie anyway, before the roads get even worse from the storm."

"Yeah. Are you sure you should be driving right now?" Matt asked.

"I have to. It's my dad's boyfriend's daughter's birthday. We have a non-traditional traditional ritual."

"Why is Ronnie going anyway?"

"Well for starters my dad has always looked at her as a 2nd daughter. And we're road trip buddies. Anytime either of us leave town we go together." Caroline answered.

"Well, buckle up. Don't speed. Stay off your cellphone. And call me when you get there."

"Got it. Anything else?"

"Yes." He answered as he brought her in for a kiss.

Caroline's Car

"Where are you? I can barely hear you guys." Matt's voice ran through the phone Caroline held. The duo were well on their way.

"The storm washed out route 5. Now we're detoured on some random backwoods path to hell." Caroline answered.

"Well, you shouldn't be talking while you're drinking." Ronnie re-tucked her black collared jumper into her skirt. Caroline hesitated and threw her phone at Ronnie who caught it with ease.

"Technically, I'm not. Anymore. Ronnie's holding the phone for me." Caroline glanced at her. Veronica took the phone and put it on her ear.

"Hey, Matt. Have you talked to Tyler at all today? He's dodging my texts and calls." Veronica's voice broke throw the other line. A sign they were losing connection.
